[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "GWTCBAuthor", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it seems to be an acronym of an organization. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 10:45, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- GWTCB is the initials for "Girl with the Crazy Brother," the most famous work of the author. It is not an organization. Is that acceptable as a username? Thank you.GWTCBAuthor (talk) 11:06, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- A book is a product, which is not permitted as a username per this part of the username policy. I don't think "Author" is sufficient to differentiate it; I think if you simply changed the name to something else to indicate you as an individual, "GWTCBfan123" (or something similar) that would be considered acceptable. 331dot (talk) 11:18, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Will do. Thank you.GWTCBAuthor (talk) 11:23, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
What is the easiest way for me to change my username? I can see that it is quite complicated. Do I really need to request a global rename? Thanks. GWTCBAuthor (talk) 11:34, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- If you want to just change it here without doing a global rename, you can visit this page to make a local request. I would add that typically new posts to a talk page are placed at the bottom for better flow; you can certainly change it on this(your) talk page if you wish; just FYI in case you post elsewhere. 331dot (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. Does that mean I would propose a new name and it could be changed here? I am open to suggestions on how to pick a new username and will reread the guidelines.GWTCBAuthor (talk) 00:59, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- If you visit the page I linked to in my last post, your name will be changed here. I think that all you need to do is change the generic 'author' to something else, be it "GWTCBfan47" (or any number). Even just adding a number or anything to your existing name would be good. 331dot (talk) 01:41, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- @331dot: Hi, I'm K6ka, a global renamer around here. Just wanted to clarify that all user account renames are done globally, so it doesn't matter where you file the request. A "global rename" basically means that your username is changed across all Wikimedia websites. "Local renames" are renames that only change the username on one wiki, and such renames generally aren't done anymore.
- Hope that clarifies some of it. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 14:19, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- @K6ka: That clarifies things very much; thank you, and I apologize for any difficulty I caused. Thanks 331dot (talk) 20:01, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
