Corn Tassel article[edit]
Hi! I've been watching this article and it looks pretty good. It just needs a little cleaning. I'm willing to help, but it means I can't approve the article, but a cleaner article means that someone else is more likely to approve it. - One of the biggest issues on the page is an issue of neutrality. It reads more like a research paper and there are parts to it that are very opinionated, which can't be allowed on Wikipedia. Paragraphs like the following:
"The case of little-known George Corn Tassel ripped the scab off the suppurating wound of American avarice and racism long doctored with nothing more than the nostrum of self-righteous entitlement. Under the new wrappings of 'States' Rights', the wound grew gangrenous to the point of necrosis. Only the forced excision of the diseased tissue during the American Civil War 31 years later saved the Union."
These should be avoided. It's very opinionated and while it is truthful, it is not neutral. Please see WP:NPOV for what the policy is on stuff like this. I recommend that you check out the page for Nat Turner, since it'd be a great example of how to write a page in a neutral point of view. I didn't want to remove these bits altogether without letting you know why they need to be removed.
I also recommend that you avoid any incidental trivia, such as one of the judges having a county named after him. It doesn't lend anything to the article and the article should be about Corn only. There's quite a few bits like this, such as the paragraph about the gold rush and its impact on Native American mining. Unless it directly relates to Corn Tassel, it should be left out of the article or kept as a very brief mention. Tokyogirl79 (talk) 06:05, 23 November 2011 (UTC)tokyogirl79

- It's cool- we all start off like this when we first start making articles. I'm in the process of trying to type up a cleaner copy. In my opinion Corn is definitely someone that is noteworthy enough for Wikipedia. The AfC area is a little weird since not everyone is comfortable with doing editing of someone else's article that's up there. It's a strange sort of dance, to be honest. I'll post the typed up copy later in my sandbox and put a link up here to it so you can look through it. If it's something that you like, you can feel free to use it as is or expand on it. - Ah... found it. He did argue it before and after. In any case, I finished the edits to the article and have posted it to my sandbox. User:Tokyogirl79/sandbox Feel free to do as you will with it. I had to take quite a bit out of it as well as summarize some of the later parts about Worchester. It does pertain to Corn, but is sort of its own thing. I did show how the laws enacted as a result of Corn's hanging did lead towards WOrchester's imprisonment and the infamous case, though. All you have to do is add the citations in their proper places, and I think we have a pretty good start here. I think it'd be worthwhile to get one of the history-inclined editors to come take a final look over it and (hopefully) approve it for the mainspace. Portals[edit]
See WP:LAYOUT for the correct placement of portals. Basically, they go in the See also section, or if that doesn't exist, under the last heading in the article (usually External links) but before categories and nav templates. You might also consider using the preview button more when trying something new. It avoids cluttering the editing history with sequences like this, made worse by the lack of edit summaries. George Corn Tassel[edit]
If anyone knows how to take out the quotation marks from the title, I would appreciate it much. I discovered that Corn Tassel is actually a Cherokee name with the two words used together (from a former Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Chad Corn Tassel Smith).
