Hello, and thanks for letting me know that the image will be deleted. I do not want this image to be deleted, as it is a big thing for my userpage. If it must be deleted, go ahead, but if not, then please don't. Thank You. Pikminlover Meep!" 16:15, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
! If the image will be deleted, I can make another copy that is in higher graphic quality. I have the image saved, so I can edit and re-upload it. Thanks aganin, Pikminlover Meep!" 18:14, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm posting this on your talk page because I have noticed that you are often active in one or more aspects of our image use and/or image deletion processes.

I would like to propose Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline as a guideline to detail the necessary components of a "non-free image use", or "fair use", rationale. At present, it's kindof a moving target. Some image description pages have a detailed, bulleted rationale, while others have a one sentence "this picture identifies the subject". Patroling Category:All images with no fair use rationale, I've seen image pages that explicitly have something of a rationale that have been nominated for a speedy.

This is not an attempt to change or influence the image use policy in any way - and I would like to steer it away from becoming a rehash of the arguments over recent changes to the fair use policy. The only purpose of this guideline is to assist users who upload fair use images in correctly and adequately documenting what they feel to be the rationale for using the images.

So I would like for us to formalize what is required. I have also created Template:Fair use rationale and I would like to propose that we use it or something similar as a template to assist users in creating an acceptable rationale. I have no particular attachment to the proposal as it stands now - I have created it only as a starting point. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline and the associated talk page to give your thoughts and ideas. Thank you. BigDT 19:44, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User Notification

[edit]

My point in not notifying the user is that it seems pointless to create a page on Wikipedia that will likely never be seen by the recipient, especially for account that have few edits that were at least months ago. It's not that I refuse to notify any user, just the ones that it seems pointless to do so. Isn't the point of WP:IAR to not be held back by rules? I believe that it's not helpful to Wikipedia to create user talk pages where the only entry is this, or to even add it when the only contribution is this one image and they haven't done anything in months. In short, this "rule" by consensus isn't helping me maintain Wikipedia, so I'm allowed to ignore it. I'm sorry you feel you must notify all these users, but I do not. I will start a discussion per your recommendation. --MECUtalk 02:23, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

I'm here seeking your advice on what to do with this image: Image:Boonestutz.jpg. How are we to believe that Aggieathletics.com actually gave permission? I know to WP:AGF, but that only goes so far. Further, the license tag says not to say only for educational use and that's exactly what they put in. Is this then a {{db-noncom}}? I didn't think a WP:PUI was appropriate off the bat either. Your advice is appreciated. Thank you. --MECUtalk 22:55, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't bite

[edit]

I agree not to bite the newcomers, but when an account is created and their only contribution after 8 hours is uploading an image of that type, I fail to see why I should welcome them. --MECUtalk 01:38, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My only argument against that is that he managed to find the "upload file" fairly quickly, and yet nothing else. I can assume good faith until I think a user has created an account solely to upload this image. --MECUtalk 02:00, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My IFD errors, again

[edit]

You are correct, as usual. I got too used to tagging the IFDs, and since most have been orphans, not thinking about that step. In the future, if I do error like this on more than one image (one image would be a simple omission, in this case it was 4 or 5), I would appreciate a message letting me know I forgot this step so that I could complete it rather than the 'embarrassment' of you listing below each image that it wasn't done. Again, I'm sorry for forgetting and you are absolutely correct. Thank you for notifying me. --MECUtalk 22:33, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images for Deletion

[edit]

Hi! I noticed your excellent work in "Images for Deletion." So many of them are obviously and indisputably deletable, yet you always give a proper and exact reason each time. That's a lot better than I could do. Thanks! .V. 01:42, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brahma Kumaris Info.jpg‎ for Deletion

[edit]

Gay Cdn, It is fine to delete the image as the article was deleted, and it may at some point get merged into the Brahma Kumaris article at which time I will re-submit the image. Thanks..PEACETalkAbout 07:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I replaced that image with a better one. You are saying I should tag it with speedy delete? Could you tell me what tag to use -- I looked at the page you referenced and it was not clear to me. (I have always had trouble figuring out those speedy delete tags.) If you give me the right tag I will place it on the image. Thanks! Sincerely, Mattisse 15:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just attached a speedy delete to it before getting your last post -- but surely that will not interfere with the process. Sincerely, Mattisse 15:21, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out that this image has a copy in use somewhere else, but this particular picture is an orphan as you said. I have no problem with deleting it. Thanks. BlytheG 18:47, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog of Image Deletions

[edit]

I am hoping it is just the holidays and more admins will get going after the first of the year. There were also a few heated discussion on some of the days that maybe no one wanted to deal with. There may be a little "image deletion burnout" too. You and other folks (myself included) are doing a lot of nominating for deletion which is a very good thing. Keep up the good work. Anyway, I got tired of looking at the backlog and went on a binge.

We can always use more admins I think. Have you considered becoming an admin? Looks like you have several thousand edits. Check out WP:RFA if you haven't already. You might get some flak about being too "new" and someone will always oppose your nomination for the flimsiest of reasons. If you ever want to pursue it, I would nominate (or you can self-nominate) and support your effort. Your nominations for deletions and discussions on the nominations have always seemed fair, level-headed and in support of Wikipedia policy.

I am deleting away at Category:Images with unknown source or Category:Images with unknown copyright status right now but am getting a little tired. May have to call it a night! -Regards Nv8200p talk 03:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi! I will tag it db-author. I replaced that with Image:SWSlogo.JPG - logo that does not have the 20years - with permission from Social Weather Stations. I will check the file to make sure proper documentation is there. Thank you for the reminder.--Pinay (talkemail) 18:29, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please check Image:SWSlogo.JPG if I still have to do anything with it in terms of summary, documentation. I have an email from Social Weather Stations re permission to use the logo...Please advice. --Pinay (talkemail) 18:33, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changed my mind about using that image. I inserted it in a particular doc and didn't think iit worked. I think it can be deleted, unless it's needed elswhere.

re: Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cardassian logo.png)

[edit]

You say that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use. This image is a replacement. Are replacement images eligible for fair use? I created this image to replace another image. Any image can be replaced. How can any image claim fair use when all images can be replaced by images created to replace them? Another user has been deleting gallery of Fair Use images

There has been a user that has been deleting galleries of Fair Use Images by the name of User:A Man In Black. He deleted many galleries on many stations including WNBC, KNBC, KNTV, KTVU, KICU among others. I feel that these images are important for people to see in the article. But Man in black seems to be very ignorant on what images should be used on Wikipedia. I feel that you should speak with him and tell him that Fair Use Images such as KICU 36 needs to be used in there and if he deletes the image, Please do something about it since we are fed up with his treatment of Fair use Image Galleries. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JD2635 (talkcontribs) 01:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]
