Draftifying outline[edit]

Hi,

You draftified an outline I had published: Outline of Melbourne.

I understand the importance of the gatekeeping job you are doing. You don't want unreferenced crap in the encyclopedia. Neither do I.

Keep up the good work.

However, this isn't a standard article...

I've created over 600 outlines. They are part of Wikipedia's contents navigation system, and are primarily lists of articles arranged by subject to facilitate browsing the encyclopedia. They serve as subject-based tables of contents or site maps.

This outline lays out the subject very well for navigation purposes.

For the list of outlines, see Wikipedia:Contents/Outlines.

Please read Wikipedia:Outlines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outlines for more information.

If you still have any problems with the outline, let's work it out on the outline's talk page, or feel free to nominate it for deletion at WP:AfD.

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:04, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ghaeuneue,
I just wanted to let you know that this draftification wasn't in line with Wikipedia policies. Draftification is only for recently created articles that have never been draftified before and this articles was over 4 years old so it was not eligible to be moved to Draft space.
You only have 22 edits to your account at this point and you don't have the experience or knowledge to know when it is appopriate to draftify an article. Please work on improving articles and learning more about Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:01, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: By the way, I had just moved this outline out of draft space, and brought it up to the level of other city outlines. Though it was a shock to have it redraftified.

The only objection I have is that the complaint concerning citations wasn't specific. Specific requests can be addressed and citations provided.

If this had been a regular article, redraftifying it would have been the right call. But, as there is hardly any prose on the page, it instead being populated primarily by topic link list items, the demand that 1 citation wasn't enough implied that the editor wanted the list items (links) themselves referenced.

Providing citations for topics has never been standard operating procedure for outlines or any of our other navigation structures (indexes, navigation footers, navigation sidebars, portal topics lists, the Wikipedia:Contents subpages, article heading structures, see also sections, categories, etc.).

If anyone points out specific problems with any outline, including this one, I'll be happy to do what I can to fix them.

As for this outline, it is far beyond the stub stage and should be made available for use by the general public, who may very well further improve it interactively, which is the essence of the wiki. It wouldn't provide any benefit being hidden away in draft space.    — The Transhumanist   06:57, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
