January 2022[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 05:38, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

No compensation exchanged. This page is not for promotion or advertisement. Only for informative purposes. There is not centralized information on this organization that can be helpful for people who are looking to learn more about it such as myself. General information will be used moving forward and I will avoid providing details that could be mistaken for promotion. I reviewed other similar organizations and attempted to mirror their pages to prevent any violations. I would like an opportunity to correct and violations. I will review again and edit as needed to provide the audience with only need to know information.

Decline reason:

Your choice of new username would be acceptable. However, I think you are attempting to deceive us. You wrote "we" in your draft so you clearly are associated with this organization, and I don't think you are doing this work for free. You must read WP:COI and WP:PAID. You also seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding as to what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is not a place to merely provide information or for organizations to tell the world about themselves and what they do. Merely providing information is considered promotional here. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and as such an article about an organization must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the organization, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. Wikipedia is not interested in what an organization says about itself, only in what others completely unconnected with it choose to say about it on their own(not based on press releases, interviews, the organization website, mere announcements). You won't be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your organization. If that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road. If you want to be a general contributor and edit about topics unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what those might be. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 10:06, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Using other articles as a model is not necessarily a good idea, as those other articles could also be inappropriate. As this is a volunteer project where people do what they can when they can, it is possible to get inappropriate articles by us. We can only address what we know about. If you want to use other articles as a model, you should use those classified as good articles. 331dot (talk) 10:06, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I appeal this decline because the assumptions made are incorrect. I am fully aware on the disclosure process and my connection was not questions it was asked about compensation which I answered. However, the following information does not make it clear in the text that it was required to do it at the time of draft. "How to disclose - Disclosing your status as a paid editor is super-duper simple. Just create your userpage if you haven't already done so by clicking the name of your account in the top right of the screen. Add to it the following text, making sure to include the double curly brackets: . Make sure to publish the page, and then you're good. If you've already created your userpage, just add the text to the page somewhere." This being my first and only time ever being on this end of Wikipedia, I am allowed to learn as I go. I understand all the information that has been shared with me and I have become fully aware of what is allowed. There is no reason according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:When_your_boss_tells_you_to_edit_Wikipedia in the "How to disclose" section that I should not have the ability to edit or be block due to my connection. In regards to the comment about using we, that line was cited and it came directly from their website. I did not change it. This is a case of new beginner learning about Wikipedia and not a case that is trying to be painted of someone trying to violate this website.

Decline reason:

"This page is not for promotion" and yet the very first link you inserted is to comicdante dot com slash promopack. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 17:43, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

1.) Please address the following for my understanding: "I am fully aware of the disclosure process and my connection was not questioned. I was asked about compensation which I answered. However, the following Wikipedia page does not make it clear in the text that it is required to do this process at the time of draft otherwise I would have. There is no reason according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:When_your_boss_tells_you_to_edit_Wikipedia in the "How to disclose" section that I should not have the ability to edit or be block due to my connection. Based on this article, it sound like if double curly brackets was done prior to submission, then I would not have been blocked and there would be no issue. 2.) Please be clear of my intentions: I have no intentions to edit this page beyond basic profile information, I will leave that to other contributors. As stated and understood, "Wikipedia is not interested in what an organization says about itself, only in what others completely unconnected with it choose to say about it on their own(not based on press releases, interviews, the organization website, mere announcements)." That is what I want from this page, nothing more. However, in order to do that, there has to be basic profile information for contributor to add to, otherwise how will they know who or what they are contributing to. 3.) To address the comment about using "we", that line was cited and it came directly from the website. I did not change it. 4.)To address the link, I was not aware until being informed and further research reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links that those types of links can not be used. I have no problem removing them and not using those or anything else associated. 5.) In conclusion, I was not and don't ever intent to make errors and misunderstand. This is a situation of a new beginner learning about Wikipedia and not a case that is trying to be painted of someone trying to violate this website. If this is not a place to be able to learn from errors and welcome corrections, then that should be made clear and stated when someone creates an account. If that is the case that errors can not be corrected, please provide me with that the reference for that information. In addition, please provide options available to correct the following issues: "The account has been used for advertising or promotion and username indicates that the account represents a business, organization, group, or web site". If there are no resolutions to these problems, please provide information on next steps.

Decline reason:

Yes, of course one can learn from mistakes and correct them. However, you have so far shown no sign of doing so. The editing you did before the block was unambiguously promotional. Thousands of people come to edit Wikipedia unaware of the policy on promotion, and sincerely believing that editing to promote, advertise, or publicise their client, business, club, political view, book, or whatever will be perfectly acceptable. Nobody can reasonably blame them for that, and if they can go on to understand that doing so is unacceptable when it is explained to them, and if they can then make it clear that they won't do the same again, then that's fine. However, in your case you show no understanding of the fact that your editing was promotional, and you give no indication whatever that you will do things differently in future. You also seem unable to understand what the reason for the block is, as you persistently go on about irrelevant matters, such as the requirement for disclosure paid editing. The block message above tells you that in order to be unblocked you need to "Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked"; you have not done either of those. JBW (talk) 21:26, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, your edit to Dante (comedian) was also a violation of the copyright policy; please don't copy text from other websites that are not compatibly licensed. DanCherek (talk) 20:12, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • We are not interested in "basic profile information" as Wikipedia does not have profiles, it has articles. 331dot (talk) 20:53, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have an open unblock request, help me requests are not needed. I already answered you in my decline message. 331dot (talk) 21:03, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please answer the following questions: 1.) If Wikipedia is a website where correction can not be made regarding these issues, please provide me with the reference for the information that states that.. 2.) If not, please provide options available to correct the following issues: "The account has been used for advertising or promotion and username indicates that the account represents a business, organization, group, or web site". 3.) If there are no resolutions to these problems, please state that and provide information on next steps. 4.) Please explain the following statement and where are appropriate outside sources to get information regarding a person if its not press releases, interviews, the organization website, announcements?: "your edit to Dante (comedian) was also a violation of the copyright policy; please don't copy text from other websites that are not compatibly licensed. 5.) In response to "We are not interested in "basic profile information" as Wikipedia does not have profiles, it has articles" - What is appropriate content for the page that was not been added and what was added that should not be writing? As previously stated, I was not and don't ever intent to make errors and misunderstand. This is a situation of a new beginner learning about Wikipedia and not a case that is trying to be painted of someone trying to violate this website. If this is not a place to be able to learn from errors and welcome corrections, then that should be made clear and stated when someone creates an account. If the admins are not able to help with these questions, please refer me to the right place to get these answers.

  • (ec) If you post a help tag again, I will remove your access to this page. They are unneccessary as you have an open unblock request.
  1. You did not just attempt to correct information; you edited to promote your client. Please read conflict of interest and how to make edit requests. However, we won't unblock you to just do that without some evidence that you actually understand what information we are looking for. This is usually done by wanting to see how you edit in areas unrelated to your conflict of interest first. This is why we will not unblock you to edit about your clients in the short term. If that is all you want to do here, there is nothing more to be done here.
  2. To resolve these problems, you must make a successful unblock request demonstrating that you understand the points described in the block notice.
  3. As I said, you won't be unblocked to edit about your clients in the short term, if there is nothing else you wish to do here, there is nothing more to do here.
  4. and 5; As I said in my decline message, Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state. Press releases, interviews, and the like are not independent sources. If no independent reliable sources write about your clients, they would not merit a Wikipedia article. 331dot (talk) 21:37, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would suggest that before you make another unblock request, that you read the comments on this page, as well as the pages WP:SIMPLECOI and WP:RS carefully. You will likely only get one more chance to request unblock here, so make it count. 331dot (talk) 21:40, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
