February 2017[edit]

Hello, and welcome to editing Wikipedia. I hope you have a successful time here. However, I'm afraid I have to tell you some bad news about your first contribution. The article Ravi Kant Sharma has been deleted, because it consisted of text copied from other sources. It is almost never suitable to copy content from another web site to Wikipedia, for more than one reason, the most important being copyright. When you post anything to Wikipedia you release it for anyone in the world to reuse it, either unchanged or modified in any way whatever, subject to attribution to Wikipedia. It is very rare that the owner of a web site licenses content for such very free reuse, and in those few occasions when they do so, we require proof of the fact. We don't assume that content is freely licensed on the unsubstantiated say so of just anyone who comes along and creates a Wikipedia account, for the simple reason that very often people come to Wikipedia and falsely claim to have copyright rights that in fact they don't have.

I also think it may help you to know that the whole tone and character of the page was not suitable for a Wikipedia article. My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start. Hi, JamesBWatson its all true what you said but all information over that source ( website ) is reliable and true. Also, Wikipedia don't have any information about Rtd.Air Marshal Ravikant Sharma. So, I request you to please think about it and renew the information. There is no problem if the new editor edits it in the Wikipedia's way but the information should be used as Wikipedia has information about his precedes and succeeds but not about him.

For further discussion do not hesitate to talk to me.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm afraid there is no question of restoring content which infringes copyright. However, if yo are determined to create an article on the subject, go to Wikipedia:Drafts and create a draft article there. When you think it's ready you can submit it for review by an experienced editor, who will either decide to accept it as an article or else give you advice on how it needs to be improved. That will give you a better chance of eventually getting the article accepted, rather than deleted. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 09:55, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It is very nice that wikipedia understand and gave me a chance to do this. But as much I know the website from which I took the information belongs to the school from where Rtd. Air Marshal Ravi Kant Sharma completed his schooling . Also, I didn't saw any copyrights over the website.
I will appreciate it if wikipedia will use the information and will create a page .
