Thank you

Dear Gwernol, Thank you soo much for unblocking me. I understand why you blocked CPofserozza, and I thank you again for unblocking me since Robert moved from our cottage. Robert was a kind of "special" person, I like to think that people like him can be helped in the mental hospital he went to. He is mentally challenged partially, and since he was not related to my family, we felt that we should not take care of him. He actually tried to kill our dog. I know, that is the main reason we contacted the authorities and had him removed. Thank you again. God bless.

Sincerely,

Elisabeth Vantar

This is a vandal-only account used for the sole purpose of insulting myself and Cyde. Indefblock, perhaps? --172.193.16.56 03:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Speedy!

Hey there. I award you "ten points" because that's about all I can do :) I'd like to thank you for your speed and diligence as an Administrator. I've only been here four days, but I'm doing what I can to help out, and I appreciate Admin's that make it easier to do so :) Pursey 03:19, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Protection

Hey Gwernol, thanks for keeping watch over my user page and blocking our vandal du jour over and over. I think I'm good for now, as he seems to have stopped. If he comes back, I'll think about it, though, but it's no big deal. In fact, I wish he'd keep coming back to mine so I know which username to report as soon as possible.

Thanks for the offer! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:36, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, the bipolar reference was removed about an hour ago. Thank for your contribution.

Hello! I used this picture to illustrate my article about SAR class NG 15 in the german Wikipedia (de:SAR Klasse NG 15), because I have no own pictures and this one seems to be the only free picture of this class in the internet. Do you by any chance have a newer picture, where the locomotive is already in better condition, or is it currently not in a state or location to be photographed? --FritzG 19:58, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your answer! I thought about contacting somebody from the WHR myself because they have tons of fine pictures, but first I want to finish translating the WHR article and writing an article about the K1 Garratt. And I'm planning to go to Wales for holiday next year. --FritzG 15:37, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for reverting this rather curious vandalism of my user page!--Konst.able 10:21, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

And thanks again, I'm popular today for some reason.--Konst.able 12:18, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I strongly suspect that the dozens of accounts created to vandalise the page and its discussion orginate from the same IP. Given that (based on contributions) all of them have been created purely to vandalise this page (the latest user being named Upthearse69), would it not be possible to simply block the IP? Obviously we shouldn't be too heavy-handed with new users, but this is getting ridiculous now. DJR (T) 14:16, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

How did Jasonmcrae manage to get past the semi-protection? He has only made 4 edits - all of which were vandalism to the Tim Lovejoy page. The regularity of these attacks is getting quite frustrating. DJR (T) 17:06, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi gwernol, about wayne rooney

Hiya, i see u deleted my question on the wayne rooney discussion page, i'm not a vandal. Fair enough, what i said may well be irrelevant, but i'm no vandal. I didnt add it for the sake of disruption, i just wanted to ask a question. It may be nonsence to you but i was actually just seeking a bit of reassurance. I've never used wikipedia before so forgive me for adding the 'nonsence'. I'm a wikiNovice, not a wikiVandal!

"Spam on the Galaxy Quest page?

You removed "spam" from the Galaxy Quest page today.

The spam in question was a link to the archive.org cache of the promotional mock fan site mentioned in the article. It had a "citation needed" marker next to it when there was no link.

There is no advertising on that page other than a copyright notice at the bottom crediting Dreamworks for the page, so I'm not sure how it could be spam if it's only purpose was to promote the movie that the WP page is about in the first place.

Either way, it was an interesting example of one of the first uses of indirect promotion on the internet, so I thought it would be worth mentioning.

Re: Traditional Catholic Reflections & Reports

Thank you very much for helping set up this page. I'm rather confused about how to arrange it all. It needs to be categorized under Catholic, Ecumenical, Social Justice...but I'm not sure how to proceed and the category page is confusing to me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Paxus2008 (talkcontribs) .

Hi Gwernol. In July, you deleted and salted Angry Nintendo Nerd as a speedy G4, per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Angry Nintendo Nerd, which Mailer Diablo closed as a delete with the insinuation that there was some serious sockpuppetry going on. Well, we just got a request over on Articles for Creation for the creation of an article called Angry Video Game Nerd. The request came from an SPA using the name Xdrake. I rejected the request, but I thought you should know in case you want to want to do a prophylactic protection of the empty Angry Video Game Nerd page before Xdrake or some other sock figures out he can create the article himself after four days. Best, --Aaron 01:56, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you!

Even tho vandalising my talk page wasnt related to the "content dispute" (if you could call it that - literally over two words) I didnt feel it was my place to block him. Unusual trolling for a claimed "experienced editor" however! Anyway, thanks again! Glen 14:53, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Who are you and why are you sending me messages?==

I just got a message from you saying I added info to Rosie O'Donnell? What is that about? I've blocked that user on the suspicion that it's the IP of User:Tequendamia, who you blocked for revert warring. I personally don't think it's just a co-incidence that another user appears on the scene solely to uphold (for want of a better word) Tequendamia's side of the argument after he gets blocked. -- Steel 13:48, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Why are we wasting our time with him? Let's just indef him, ignore any futher emails and be done with it.--Konst.ableTalk 21:28, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Because he has made some genuine contributions to Wikipedia, and if you just start blocking everyone indefinitely without even reviewing their case, that goes totally against the community spirit of WIkipedia. And you have to take any allegations seriously, however stupid they are. Madder 21:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Madder. We need to follow this through. I want to see the WP:RFCU complete. If, as I suspect, this shows that Lorenzo's accusations are without merit I will vigourously pursue a community ban against him. Ninjas in video games

Hey Gwernol, what's wrong with what I added to In video games section on the Ninja page? The info I added was all true(play the games yourself!), and just as worth stating as was the other stuff. I replaced rogue with rouge by mistake, but you know what meant.

Okay, thank you.

DISCUSS BEFORE DELETING PLEASE!

Before unilaterly deleting an article that has existed for no more than two minutes, please have the decency to discuss the matter with the author, and in the case of Doogle, that's me. That particular article was more than justified. The website to which it referred is now quite well-known. If you're into deleting, there's plenty of crap on Wikipedia that should go - why don't you go looking for it? I'm going to re-instate the article. Please don't just delete it again. Thanks. Arcturus 22:55, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

You might well be right (subject not notable enough). However, my point really is about consulting. Perhaps a request to delete tag might have been more appropriate in the first instance. I've put the article back (with a reference). Maybe someone else will pick it up, expand it, or flag for deletion. Cheers, Arcturus 23:22, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

RE: No personal attacks policy

I am quite familiar with Wikipedia's policy regardng this, and I am unaware of any infringement I made with regards to Wikipedia's discussion policies. Citing admin conduct as "hypocrisy" or "ridiculous" is not in and of itself a personal attack, considering that the language is neither hostile nor directed at a particular individual. Furthermore, citing such conduct itself as "disregarding Wikipedia's guidelines" also does not constitute a "personal attack": Wikipedia's guidelines specifically state that claiming others are not following Wikipedia guidelines cannot be interpreted as a personal attack since it always the inherent possibility of being a valid criticism. Wikipedia guidelines also clearly and specifically state that comments on USERS are *not prohibited* so long as such comments are relevant to the articles and the content; In this case I have criticized the reasoning behind an article's protected deletion, and my comments are relevant. If I have failed to adhere to Wikipedia guidelines on discussion content, perhaps you could help me by specifically pointing out in what way I have failed to adhere to policy? I would appeciate any help you could offer in this regard!

Thanks! Blacksun1942 01:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying my failure to post in a manner consistent with Wikipedia guidelines. Upon further review it does indeed appear that you're correct. Though your sarcastic and biting tone is uncalled for and unprofessional, especially considering that as an Admin it is incumbent upon you to adhere the very same standards you criticize others for violating. I gently remind you that you that as an Admin you are a representative of Wikipedia, and I ask that in further personal communications with me that you please remain courteous and professional; I will likewise extend to you the same courtesy.

Perhaps the tone of your commentary can be attributed to the fact that YOU appear to be the individual responsible for the protected deletion of the Angry Nintendo Nerd article. May I say that I feel that not only was the deletion of this article unwise, but to take the step of protecting its recreation was an extreme, unfair, and unncecessary step. You asked me to review the AFD discussion on this article; The record shows you deleted and protected the article on July 23, but no discussion of the article is present in the July 23, 2006 AFD log. It is my understanding that the deletion of articles cannot be done in an arbitrary way and that Wikipedia invites free and fair discussion before such articles are deleted; Perhaps you could assist me in locating the AFD discussion that occured before the article was deleted?

You misunderstood my comments about articles of low merit; That articles of self-evidently low merit and limited relevancy are allowed to be posted and remain up, while the very relevant article on the Angry Nintendo Nerd, an internet figure with thousands of fans around the world, is selected for protected deletion is in my view a failure on the parts of the Admins, and I am very dissatisfied with Admin conduct in this regard. I would also like you to know I find your suggestion that I help seek out articles for deletion to be an indication of your attitudes towards Wikipedia and its contents. My understanding is that as an Admin, the deletion of articles is not your only responsibility and being an Admin means more than that. You imply that the Angry Nintendo Nerd article is "crap"... I think the thousands of internet users who watch his program on a weekly basis, the multitude of imitators he has spawned, and the editors of Katie Couric's news program who selected his video to be featured as a representation of YouTube would disagree with you. Blacksun1942 01:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

I have found the AFD discussion that you kindly directed me to; Thank you. It is labelled as an archive and "should not be modified"; yet it also states that it has been "reopened for discussion"; I'm confused. Could you tell me where I could post further discussion on this article? I feel that though the original article may have been deleted appropriately, the article should NOT be protected and that it should be reopened for editing.

BTW: I am not stupid, nor naive, nor am I extremely unfamiliar with Wikipedia (despite what you may think). Professionalism should, and I believe IS, expected from Wikipedia admins; that you imply that it is "odd" to expect professionalism from you in this role simply because you aren't being paid is frankly outrageous, if I may say so. I told you I would be courteous in further communication with you and I don't mean to tell you how to do your job, but I am shocked that you would suggest that professionalism in discussions and conduct is not incumbent on a Wikipedia admin because you "aren't being paid". Hi, can you help? I looked at the article of Saranda Yates Jones of Archie comics characters, and seems it falls to original research category. I was wondering whether you can help suggesting the article to be put into; a) minor characters page, b) deletion. I'm not so sure which category this article suppose to be. Also the article seems being copied directly from the website this author made. Should we delete this article? I'm asking you because it seems you suggested this about another article to this user Thanks! HoneyBee

Glad you appreciated it. There is some awful spamcruft out there, and yet deleting it may offend many. More seriously, the fun I had adding that (harmless) spurious information gave me a real appreciation of why people vandalise articles they do not like. Can something be done to stop 68.230.24.148 ??

Gwernol, in the space of a little over an hour, 68.230.24.148 placed a {{fact}} tag in over 50 articles ... none of which were warranted. For verification of this, look at his/her Contributions page. I goofed...

I just unblocked User:Hairtransplantguy and his sock, Battleagainstbald because of a polite and seemeingly sincere e-mail I received from this user regarding his wish to contribute constuctively. I had no idea you had declined his request and I am SO sorry for overriding your declination. I assure you that it wasn't intentional and I accept full responsibility for this user's future behavior. I think this is too obviously an additional sock for an RFCU or sockpuppet investigation, but I defer to you. Evidence: Sexy tone on user page, Afd's of British parliamentarians just like our cheerleader, in fact, first edit on Oct 17th was an Afd diff, initiates contact with User:Lucky 6.9 diff without prior contact (the user UCF Cheerleader was "flirting" with prior to her block.) How

How is it a violation if I do it, but not when he does it. WTF is this double standard? BubbaJubba 21:56, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

BubbaJubba

Thank you. He actually nominated my userpage twice, or if you reverted it then three times, because I reverted it twice myself. He apparently takes exception to an {{AfD}} tag I have placed. If he places another tag I am getting a little close to the 3-revert rule if I revert it. Advice, please?--Anthony.bradbury 22:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Correction: he shows four times on my userpage - User:Mr.Lefty reverted once without my seeing it. He did not, I think remove anything himself. Thank you for the warning block. I seem to have a genuine talent for antagonising vandals.--Anthony.bradbury 22:08, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Train, train

Hi Gwernol. Do you have any references or stylistic/formatting ideas for Symington, Biggar and Broughton Railway Company? I'm pretty new to this train stuff and not especially confident that what I've done there is along the right lines, so to speak. The Caledonian Railway article is also in need of some attention, and I lack good resources to improve it, apart from the Edinburgh end which I plan to do. The Railscot entry is uncharacteristically slim in this case. Sorry to bother you but you helped get me into this stuff. --Guinnog 22:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Gwernol and Guinnog - I have been working on the railways around Crieff and Callander - see Dunblane, Doune & Callander Railway, Callander and Oban Railway, etc. I prefer this setup and using the disused railway box for the stations. Look at what I have done to Dunblane. It is still open, but I have added a bit about the Dunblane, Doune and Callander Railway and the Disused Railway box. The Glasgow Central Railway is another example, especially as the central core was reopened in 1979.

Various questions about the Refinance article.

First of all, I'm sorry that I made you delete the reference link twice. I didn't actually realize it had been deleted the first time, and thought I had simply made a mistake in the syntax while posting it, which is why it was no longer appearing. Only after it vanished a second time did I check the page history.

Secondly, I was in the middle of researching External Links to use when I noticed that the reference was gone. I was planning on using an IRS site and an HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) site for External Links, given that I would hope everyone can agree that the IRS' website is not a spam site (hopefully).

As to the reference, I used it specifically because it was my reference in writing the article in question. A great deal of the information I put into the article comes directly from that site. As to its authenticity, I'm not certain what the process is here, but it mirrors (in much greater detail) the information found on HUD and the IRS sites, as well as other .orgs and .govs. I know it's a commercial site (a .com), but the company doesn't sell Mortgage Refinancing or for that matter any other kind of loan. It's a consumer information website I've used many times as a source of information.

I understand your concerns about spam and the like, but the base fact is that this site WAS my reference, and that there were no references at all prior to me adding it. I can't very well just not acknowledge the place I got the info from. What should I do about it?

((Edit: I'm kinda new to this, and I have no idea how to timestamp and sign my name to this thing. In case there's some confusion, this is being written by user GenHavoc at 4:15 PM Pacific Standard Time on October 24th, 2006.))

excuse me

My contribution to the page on fascism was a legitimate fact with a sited source. It was not personal opinion. I did not say that the bush administration was or wasn't fascist, I stated that it has been said to be, and sighted a source. I would appreciate it if you would not delete neutral information that does not fit your personal preference.

good day sir.

I'm not pushing views

I'm stating a fact, sir, not pushing views. If you must know, I am in support of the bush administration. would this be a more substantial source? it's a widely published document, which i believe falls under wikipedias criteria for credibility. Anyone can go read this at any time.[2]

Sometimes, facts must be stated that are against ones views because they are true.

Theres no need for you to get snotty about it.

Point of view?

I've read articles on hear that are anything but neutral. they contain facts that are indeed biased, yet they are allowed, but when I state a fact, it isn't. If i quoted fox news would you consider that a neutral source? would you accept that? because they arent neutral. they are extremely biased.

the world is not neutral, and NO fact is ever as such. no article in any form is ever without at least a slight bias. it's impossible to write such a thing. it is impossible to find unbiased facts. it is rather possible to find biased facts, and decide for youself which to accept. this is our nature as human beings, and the way our society and all others has worked since the begining of civilized man.

I have never seen Britannica site a source. An encyclopedia is supposed to BE a source. if all it does is site other sources, then it has no purpose.

Okay then.

How about you spend some time searching them out instead of attacking me. you can start with the page titled "punk dance" which i have noticed had a particularly dreadful bias against these punk rockers, making them appear brutish, disgusting and violent. it's hardly neutral. at no point is it sated that this dancing is for fun, and is not a wreckless barfight as it is made out to be.

thank you.

More questions about Refinance.

Thank you for replying so promptly (even if it took me a while to realize that your reply would appear on MY talk page rather than yours, as said before, I'm a bit new to this).

I follow your reasoning, and I can only imagine the spam problems you guys have. Normally I would have cited HUD and the IRS and the like, except that the IRS and HUD articles only address specific elements of debt and mortgage refinance, and not the process as a whole. The article in question whose reference was removed was the only one I found with a concise and balanced view of just what the process is and what the benefits and risks are. Unfortunately, it is, as you pointed out, a private website. I figured that since I was citing it as the reference for where I got the info however, that it was only proper to include it in the relevant category.

Once I get the chance, I'll add HUD and the IRS' sites as external links. I won't put them in as references, as I did not actually use them as such, just as further reading. Surely as they are government sites, they qualify as non-spam.

Halliburton.

sorry, that halliburton thing was an accident... not really sure what happened there.

Frank Sheldon Article

It's been a while, but back on September 17 you deleted an article related to Frank Sheldon. If I remember correctly, while I never got clearance from the copyright holder for his picture, I had given links to reputable sources supporting the biographical information on the page. Why was the page deleted, and what should be done to make it fit for the wiki and restore it?

Further Sheldon-Related Scrawling

Reading over the guidelines I can see where you were right and a page for the individual was excessive. However, is there any way I can view the information that was previously on the page? I think I may try to make a quick paraphrase on the page linking to his name, listing a notable fact or two, instead of creating an entire page for him. If I am unable to see the information with my permissions, could you copy and paste the source data into my discussion page?

Thank you! Sorry for the trouble.

T. R. Knight reversions

Gwernol: the information about Knight being one of the few openly gay actors on television is worthy of mention in the article. I do not appreciate your reversion of that information without discussion. (note: this was also posted on the T. R. Knight talk page) Weirdoactor 15:56, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Orinoco article =

All I did was revert to a previous version to get rid of a huge amount of vandalism (look what was there before). I had no idea that 'hoi' was in it. Only good intentions.

Wait. I don't get it. Just before I reverted I saw "Brian is a noob" many times at the bottom in Note 2. I kid you not. Anyway, the main thing is the article is now OK.

Hi there; I note the idiotic edits this user has inserted. Is eleven minutes from welcome to block a wikipedia record?--Anthony.bradbury 21:30, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

As you say. Siiighghgh.--Anthony.bradbury 21:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

If and when you have a moment, can you take a look at this article and tell me if you think there is anything here worth salvaging? I started to place a merge tag on the article, and propose that it merged with the main article about Hyderabad, but there is really nothing in the article that is worthy of merging. Any article, it seems to me, that bills itself as a "travel guide" is either going to be entirely POV and OR (since it will, one assumes, be telling the reader where he or she should travel, which routes to take, where to stay, etc., just as a travel guide should do) or it will be a copy-vio from another published travel guide. Either way, it is not encyclopaedic. Your thoughts, sir? Thanks, as always, for your time and efforts. ---Charles 21:34, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your quick response. I placed the prod, now we'll see what happens. My guess is, nothing. ---Charles 21:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

User:193.117.23.129

I see you recently blocked this IP address (correctly) for vandalism. Can I point out that this is a corporate IP address, used by the office I work in, rather than a single individual. I have used it myself on occasions, though I usually log in. I wasn't in the office yesterday, when the block was in place, but I'm concerned that if it happens again, my log-in may also be auto-blocked by association. Or doesn't it work like this?

I'll try and find out who the culprit was (needless to say it wasn't me), but it is a large office, and the IP may also possibly be shared by other offices in our company, as we use a proxy server system.

I'll also keep a close watch on this IP's contributions, and revert and warn where necessary.

Changing the subject, if you're interested, I got to the Talyllyn Railway again on Saturday, and I've added some photos to the page. Hope you like them!

Are there templates to do this?

  1. Request users to sign their talk page posts?
  2. Request that a user be banned?
  3. Request users to provide a edit summary when editing pages? (I use that to evaluate whether the change was spam or vandalism.)

Comment/Help Needed

I know you're a respected editor here, you've helped my friend Glen Stollery (Glen S) before, but this time, it's me that needs your assistance. Please review Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Messenger2010 and comment. I normally wouldn't request a favor like this, but I feel very strongly that there are Wikipedia articles where information is being serverly compromised to push an anti-soy bean/soy protein agenda - and it's all being perpetrated by one user. Just have a look at my talk page! I'm not sure what else I can do, but go for a sockpuppet ban. The way you handled Glen's case with LorzenPerosi, leads me to think you'd be helpful here too. Thanks in advance. Yankees76 04:36, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Upcoming template changes

Hi, I've just noticed that you recently left a templated userpage message. I'm just bringing to your attention that the format and context of these templates will be shortly changing. It is recommended that you visit WikiProject user warnings and harmonisation discussion pages to find out how these changes could affect the templates you use. We also would appreciate any insights or thoughts you may have on the subject. Thanks for your understanding. Best regards Khukri (talk . contribs) 14:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

vandals

Gwernol, I am going to be away for a few days, and as you know my userpage attracts vandalism like a magnet attracts iron filings. Could I ask you to make an occasional check, and take any action called for? Thank you in anticipation.--Anthony.bradbury 22:47, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

More Nonsense

Hi Gwernol, User 24.118.159.10 has been scattering nonsense again, this time offering on the Dashboard Confessional page that "Emo kids can eat my scrote." Lovely. I noticed on this user's Talk page that you had warned him twice before, so I thought you might want to know about this as well. I reverted the change in the article but did not use my username there, or here. ( Didn't seem fair to attract this user's attention because I am a Wikipedia copy editor and proofreader: I make changes to other people's articles, which is where any backlash would occur.) Hope that doesn't break any rule or civility guideline...? Thanks for all you do in the name of clarity, my very favorite thing.

WikiWoo (talk · contribs) is back

Hi Gwernol, Since you have dealt with WW before, could you take a look at User: Brampton 2006? He is being disruptive in a familiar pattern, accusing anyone who touches "his" edits of being a vandal, saying we are trying to keep information from the public, etc. on Brampton, Ontario and Brampton municipal election, 2006. He is also "participating" in Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Osgoodelawyer. Also, I am trying to access WW's talk page to get diffs for a check-user, but this has been erased. Could you get me access to it? Thanks, JChap2007 02:40, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for getting me access to WW's talk page (which, I think I should bring to your attention, is currently unprotected). I have filed a request for check-user at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/WikiWoo. Cheers, JChap2007 05:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Domestic violence

Hey. While I do agree to you that Domestic violence is pretty cool (me and my gir smack each other around all the damn time), the article here is quite a let down. Like man I was looking for tips and pointers and what not yo. Hizzizzle 02:49, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Furthermore, if it is not biased, then what is that HUGE "NPOV" tag doing at the damn top of the article? Hizzizzle 02:51, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Please chill out. I meant no harm. Its not a bad faith nomination, can you try to be civil please? Hizzizzle 02:55, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, This user was blocked by yourself a fortnight ago for vandalism, and is back to his/her old tricks again - I have just reverted his attack on Richard Neville (Warwick Kingmaker) Doesn't seem any point in Warning him though, as he ignored the earlier ones. cheersLyswim 12:38, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
