Possible conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, HRSea. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Inger Andersen (environmentalist), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:40, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JamesBWatson, Thank you for your note and for the feedback. I am new to Wiki and still learning the rules so I am very grateful for your feedback. On the conflict of interest, I have read through more thoroughly the Wiki guidelines and can confirm that I am indeed categorised as a COI and would therefore like to disclose myself as such to other users. As I work for IUCN, and as I understand from the guidelines, I therefore need to publicly disclose this on the Talk page by tagging myself as a ‘Connected contributor’ so that other users are aware? Just to clarify, as I find the guidelines a little unclear on this, am I a ‘connected contributor (paid)’ or a ‘connected contributor’? I think the former, but I just wanted to check with you directly to ensure I don’t make any further errors. many thanks. HRSea (talk) 08:45, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JamesBWatson, you will have seen that I have disclosed my COI as per Wiki guidelines and removed the tag as some time has passed since I disclosed. I hope this is satisfactory and stand ready to discuss further as needed. HRSea (talk)(HRSea (talk) 08:02, 4 August 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Inger Andersen

[edit]

Hello HRSea. Thanks for taking an interest in the article about Inger Andersen, and expanding it. You have really added some valuable information.

I see you are new to Wikipedia - it takes a while to get acquainted with all the rules and conventions concerning how articles are written, especially biographies of living persons. There are a few things you might want to take a look at. For example: you have added a lot of references, which is excellent. However, in some case the references do not really confirm the biographical information about Inger Andersen that you are adding. When you say that she worked as an English teacher for a charity, a link to a blog about that charity programme is relevant if it mentions Andersen's involvement (in this case, it doesn't).

Regarding linking in the text: in the main bodytext of the article, you only link to other Wikipedia articles, not to external sites.

Some of the text about Andersen's work for the World Bank reads as if it comes straight from a c.v. If it does, that could be a violation of copyright (Wikipedia only uses text that is in the public domain, or released under an open license). The solution is to use information from the original source, but change the wording.

Also, Wikipedia strives to provide neutral, factual information. In places, the text could do with toning down a bit.

I hope you find this helpful - please continue editing Wikipedia. If you have any questions, just write them below this message. Nl maclean (talk) 21:55, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NI maclean, Thank you for your note and for the encouragement and feedback. As you say, I am new to Wiki and still learning the rules and conventions so I am very grateful for your feedback.

I have made some revisions to the page and hope that they address the points you raise, namely: - References not confirming biographical information - Linking to external sites in bodytext (I am still working out how to link to the two Danish wiki articles - 'Midtfyns Gymnasium' and 'Vilhelm la Cour' but I have removed the external link work around in the meantime) - Use of emotive language Once again, I hope these edits address your points and grateful for your additional advice if not. many thanks HRSea (talk) 08:49, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
