School articles
[edit]I see you're editing a school article as part of a class project. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's school article guidelines. Also, keep in mind that the purpose of an encyclopedia article is to summarize what others have written about a subject. Other than completely mundane incontrovertible information such as the address, we do not care what the school or school district have to say about the school. - @John from Idegon: Hello sir. Thank you for your guidance, as this is my first time editing a Wikipedia article. I will make sure that I find independent (and not dependent) sources to back my claims. However, in the 'Academics' section, there is a instance of cited plagiarism, where some of the words are copied directly from Reference #4. I paraphrased that in my first edit. Also, some of the facts in the athletics section are wrong; as a former student, I can assure you that there is no "Hockey" team during winter. The high school has also won many state championships over the years, which I would like to document. Definitely, I will do my best to stay neutral and non-promoting, and keep the article professional-looking. Please continue to provide me with guidance when I stray from Wikipedia guidelines. - Actually, what you know is not relevant in any way. If you believe uncited material is inaccurate, remove it with an edit summary of "unsourced and dubious". If you claim you know it to be false in your edit summary, your edit will most likely be reverted as original research. Thank you for eliminating the plagiarism, but again you should clearly state in your edit summary that is what you are doing, as it raises a bigger issue. If a significant portion was copied directly, it will have to be removed and suppressed from the edit history as copyright violations. Pinging Diannaa to take a look at Northwest High School (Maryland). The sports offered should be sourced if possible to an independent source, such as the state high school athletic association. The achievements must be sourced to independent sources and I believe the HSAA in Maryland publishes yearbooks that can be accessed online that could be used for verification. Keep in mind we should only discuss the highest level achievements. If the school has won state championships, that is all we should discuss. Details of individual games are virtually never encyclopedic. Season records are not encyclopedic. Individual achievements are not encyclopedic. We should never use a student or staff member's name unless they are notable enough on their own to have a Wikipedia biography. I spend an inordinate amount of time looking at school articles, as I am one of the coordinators of the WikProject Schools. If I can be of any assistance, feel free to drop me a note or ping me.
