good morning. new to wiki. a user asked me if I was paid to do wiki edits. I am not. I'm not sure what I did besides try to update this company's address. Now I'm in a COIN and clearly don't know what I'm doing. Apologies and thanks for the guidance.

Hello, from what I gather, Smallbones is concerned because, in your first edit, you showed up at a very obscure page about a company. This can happen innocently, but we have had so many issues with this sort of thing in the past that they are concerned. wp:COIN is the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard where editors can express concerns that people may be editing for pay, or editing about topics they are connected to. Editors will discuss you case and try to give you guidance. If you follow it, you will be fine. I think the first thing to do would be to explain how you came accross this article. small bones asked if I was a paid wiki editor. I said no. I am a maxxsonics employee. So his question was not clear. Yes, I'm connected to the company. I work here, along with 23 others. I am the Director of Marketing. We do not have a digital savvy person, so I gave it a shot. I simply wanted to update our address, and add the link to a press release that published said data.

As for the concern of obscurity, Maxxsonics is a 15 year old, 20+ million dollar company, private. I check our page several times per month. We own audio brands Hifonics, MB Quart, Crunch and Autotek. We do business with Polaris industries as an OEM supplier. There is VERY little press that covers the "car stereo after-market" business any more, thus the only references that are not "marketing" or what smallbones calls "spam" are industry bloggers like Amy Gilroy from CE Outlook and TWICE.

That is all I can say, I would appreciate the "deletion" note being removed and the page put back to the way it was before I tried to change our address. And since it would seem that I'm not supposed to be editing the maxxsonics site, I will not attempt to modify it further.

Hello, I see your confusion, we tend to lump things together here that are not really the same. Generally, we assume that directors of marketing see editing the wikipedia article as part of their duties and so we classify them as paid editors. This is an overgeneralisation and I can see how confusing it can be. Unfortunately, I am afraid the article will most likely be deleted at this point. In order to prevent our encyclopedia from being overrun with all kinds of promotional articles about companies which we can't maintain, we require a fair amount of sourcing for articles about companies and organisations. We also require that it be independent and not in blogs. Although I am sure your company does good work and is a player in its industry, it is still on the smaller side. We have deleted articles about transit planning companies that had held large contracts from big cities but lacked proper coverage. Good luck and thank you for being open.
