October 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Tacyarg. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Benjamin Agosto have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 19:35, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please don't add promotional material to this article - words like "esteemed" are not neutral. Tacyarg (talk) 06:41, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Iceskater79! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Benjamin Agosto several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Benjamin Agosto, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 08:16, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Iceskater79. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Benjamin Agosto, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 08:17, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a conflict of interest. Just a skater wanting to update his page. I don't understand why it was not appropriate. Can you edit it instead of reverting it? Iceskater79 (talk) 02:37, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, if you are Benjamin Agosto, I'm afraid you do have a conflict of interest regarding this article, and should not edit it directly. You can propose changes on the article's Talk page. Tacyarg (talk) 08:31, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No I am not Ben, I did propose on the article's talk page. Iceskater79 (talk) 18:27, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you represent or work for him? You say "Just a skater wanting to update his page". Tacyarg (talk) 18:35, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:Katherine Hill, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 64andtim (talk to me) 02:37, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Iceskater79 -- It was deleted under WP:G11, for being so promotional that it would need a fundamental rewrite to be acceptable. I have taken another look and the style of writing reads like a resume, and includes trivial details and promotional material that does not contribute to the subject's notability.

Importantly, I note that almost all your edits relate to Katherine Hill or her former skating partner Benjamin Agosto, so I must ask -- are you Katherine Hill or Benjamin Agosto, or are you related to either of them in any way, or are you being paid to contribute this content? If so you must immediately read WP:Autobiography, WP:Conflict of interest and WP:Paid editing (as appropriate) and follow the instructions to disclose your conflict of interest before attempting to contribute on this topic again.
