edit summary[edit]

I adequately explained why in my edit summary. What struck you as less than adequate? Further, I would urge you to read and comply with wp:burden.--2603:7000:2143:8500:290C:C236:555A:9B0A (talk) 20:51, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
You stated "d mass uncited; more should be deleted"
I added a template to request more sources to the article in question. Looking at your contribution history, it seems like you are on a "deletion" spree without reaching consensus first.
Thank you for the link you shared with me. I think it would be more productive to help find the sources and point out the lack of them with a template or inline citations instead of deleting them, what do you think?
Kind regards, IrrationalBeing (talk) 21:01, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Read that link. The burden is on the person restoring the uncited material. We need cleanup. People are adding uncited material. The rule is clear. If deleted, you cannot - cannot - restore it without providing the necessary RS refs. You have violated that clear rule. The policy is a consensus policy - that is why it is a wp policy. It does not say, as you imagine, that you can restore uncited material without refs, simply by adding a template. Please comply with policy. WP is not a place for people to add uncited material, and then burden others with finding sources, if they exist. 2603:7000:2143:8500:290C:C236:555A:9B0A (talk) 21:06, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification.
It seems we have two different views on the matter and that is okay (I tend to be more of an "inclusionist" myself).
In short, do what you think is right, I'm not trying to start a philosophical discussion about what is correct or not. Someone else will chime in as needed. I don't think I've made any major violations, considering WP:5P5.
I wish you happy editing and even if we disagree on methodologies, thank you for trying to make Wikipedia a better place.
Kind regards, IrrationalBeing (talk) 21:16, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You directly flouted a policy. I will again ask you to self-revert. The policy is clear. The fact that it can evolve over time does not mean you can ignore it as it stands. Both the principle and the wording are clear. Flouting a clear rule is reckless, not bold. You don't get to ignore WP rules by pointing to wp:5p5 - that refers to changes being made over time, not to you ignoring what is both clear language and a clear principle. Don't restore uncited material .. unless you provide RS refs directly supporting the text. You may not like that. But that is the clear rule. Kindly self-revert. 2603:7000:2143:8500:290C:C236:555A:9B0A (talk) 21:35, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to have a strong opinion on the matter, but I disagree with you. Nobody stops you from asking something, but you can't expect everybody to bend to your views.
I have never been good at debates which is why I am not going to continue this discussion. If you believe the deletion of material is more important, then feel free to restore your edits or ask for a third opinion: I will not start an edit war with you but I am not going to change what I did either as I don't believe it's wrong.
Again, happy editing and take care. Kind regards, IrrationalBeing (talk) 21:54, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's fine. I'll just say in closing that you've not given an explanation as to why you can flout a clear wp policy, because policies may change over time. This policy is quite clear. You are forbidden from doing what you did. I pointed it out. You refuse to self-revert, and in sum simply say you disagree. But you've not presented any rationale that holds water. I would just say in closing that if you continue to flout clear wp policy saying "I disagree and don't bend to your view," that could conceivable attract discipline, as admins won't find that sufficient. Best. 2603:7000:2143:8500:290C:C236:555A:9B0A (talk) 22:22, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello again,
I've been thinking at your words a lot and I don't want to completely live up to my username. I think you are more experienced than me and I can learn from this exchange to apply better judgment in the future, instead of being stubborn and refusing to concede a point.
I was about to finally self-revert but realized you had already done so: thank you very much. Also, for taking the time to explain me some things that I didn't know. I will add them to my humble repertoire and hopefully become better at editing.
    Kind regards, IrrationalBeing (talk) 12:02, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
