January 2023[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:45, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My page was blocked because of my username indicating that the account represents an organization. I made the mistake of creating my user and using the topic at which I wanted to write about, not following the username guidelines. I want to change my user name to Jcbart2009, to reflect myself not the topic I want to write about (drawchange). I do not receive any compensations for my contribution, and do not represent the organization drawchange. I am writing this as a volunteer for their organization, but am writing this myself as an individual. I am hoping to get unblocked so I can complete my user name change to Jcbart2009 and post the article. Drawchange (talk) 18:34, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

Changing because I was blocked for promotional. I accidentally created the account using the topic I wanted to write about- not myself. It was an error on my part. I don't get paid for writing this, and don't represent the whole of the organization. I am a volunteer for the organization, but do not get paid and am not attached to it.

Decline reason:

This does not convince me you understand WP:COI and WP:PROMO and doesn't tell me what you plan to write about instead, now that you know you won't be unblocked to post Drawchange. Yamla (talk) 19:59, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am a local student and do not get compensation from the organization this page was about. The block was administered for 2 reasons: a) my username indicated that I represented an organization, and b) that the account had been used for promotional activity. After thoroughly reading both the username guide-lines, and what Wikipedia considers promotional, I have made several changes. I have changed my user name and it has been approved. Next, I want to focus on changing my language in my proposed article to being completely neutral. Part of the promotional policy, includes not using blog/emotional news cites as sources. My editing process will include vetting those articles from any pages I want to publish moving forward and ensure I build off of quality sources. I plan to publish articles related to non-profits based in the United States. I want to write them from a neutral informative perspective, and conduct any edits in such manner.on here

Decline reason:

This is a great start, but the editor did not respond to the questions below. In a future unblock request, please outline what articles you would like to edit. Please also describe how the edits you made were promotional in nature, and what edits should have been made instead to avoid the promotional language. Lastly, please describe Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy and how editors with a COI disclose this information. Z1720 (talk) 15:47, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

(Non-administrator comment) What articles do you plan to make changes to, if unblocked? As per WP:COI you aren't able to edit articles where you have a close connection or make changes on behalf of or to benefit someone or something else other than Wikipedia. If your only goal is to write about Drawchange you won't be unblocked as per the previously mentioned policies. -- StarryNightSky11 03:24, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
