Hi Jdearborn! As a student editor on Wikipedia, you have a lot of valuable experience about what it's like to edit as a part of a classroom assignment. In order to help other students like you enjoy editing while contributing positively to Wikipedia, it's extremely helpful to hear from real student editors about their challenges, successes, and support needs. Please take a few minutes to answer these questions by clicking below. (Note that the responses are posted to a public wiki page.) Thanks!

Hi! Good luck with editing Sportswear (fashion) for your course. As the page's original creator, I will be keeping an eye on this, but I thought I should just offer a friendly word of advice in advance. Sportswear as a fashion term is in some ways very distinct from activewear (ie, tracksuits, hoodies, clothing specifically associated with sport) worn as fashion, although there is crossover, so do make sure that your edits and additions are relevant to the article. If you're unsure about something, do feel free to ask on the article's talk page. I'll be watching and happy to offer thoughts/advice. :) Mabalu (talk) 22:47, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jdearborn! I really enjoyed reading the page on sportswear that you have been working on. There is a good amount of detail about the history of the different styles and fashions that have come and gone for over hundreds of years! The only thing i would think you would need to fix or add is your initial description of your topic. Maybe state how this type of style is different from regular or specific types of fashion. Otherwise this page look fairly complete! Kellyflips (talk) 00:22, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Kellyflips. As the edit history shows Jdearborn hasn't yet done anything to the article, I guess this feedback is actually aimed at myself, Bongoramsey, and the other editors who worked on it originally. Your comments were useful, however, and I have moved some information around on the article to hopefully improve the information in the lede. Mabalu (talk) 02:48, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki 7

[edit]

This is the rough draft of what I would like to add too the Sportswear (activewear) article.

Sportswear in both men and women is designed to transform the body into an athletically ideal one.[1] Sports have evolved similar to the way the availability of sexual material has. Page text.[2]/ It has allowed for athletes to express their sexuality in ways such as posing nude. Page text.[2]/ Sportswear clothing has become more and more revealing. Page text.[2]/ Sportswear clothing has become more and more revealing. Females are talked about in the media for their appearance rather than their athletic ability. Page text.[3] The revealing nature of Sportswear has forced many female athletes to develop eating disorders, in order to look good in their uniform. Page text.[4]

I enjoyed reading your article. It was very interesting. I am glad you added something to the wiki world as a new article rather then just add something to an article.Breana Lopez 18:54, 1 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bclopez09 (talkcontribs)

Hello Jdearborn, thank you for the support! Yes, I am sure there will be much commotion about the different effects lactic acid may have on the body. Hopefully I can cover the basics to give those who dont know, a better understanding. Dbaladi10 (talk) 00:47, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with sourcing on Sportswear (activewear)

[edit]

Hi,

First, thank you for your edits to Sportswear (activewear). Because you are doing this as part of a class project, I will not be reverting, altering or editing them (for now) but I need to highlight a few things to give you a chance to resolve them. The sources you have used are not acceptable. They are links to pages of search results on a site that is not publicly viewable or accessible, which means that the information is not verifiable unless the verifier also has an account on the site. Sources should identify specific, reliable third-party publications, their authors (where known), and as many details as possible - publication date, date checked, title of article or chapter, the name of the newspaper/journal/book, etc, in order to be verifiable. Do feel free to ask for specific assistance. Mabalu (talk) 10:22, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I had a closer look at one of your sources and this is what I saw in the coding:

<ref name="Duffy-Paiement, C. (2009). Disordered eating among collegiate female athletes: The role of athletic seasonal status and self-objectification. State University of New York at Albany). ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, 102. ">[http://search.proquest.com/docview/305092798?accountid=14749. (305092798)], additional text.</ref>

The problem is that everything has been listed as a ref name, which does not show in the references, so all you see is a link to the Proquest search result page. Going by this, a correctly formatted reference/citation for the above would be:

<ref name=duffy>{{cite book|last=Duffy-Paiement|first=C.|title=Disordered eating among collegiate female athletes: The role of athletic seasonal status and self-objectification.|year=2009|publisher=State University of New York at Albany|pages=102|url=http://search.proquest.com/docview/305092798|}}{{subscription}}</ref>,

which would display as:

Duffy-Paiement, C. (2009). Disordered eating among collegiate female athletes: The role of athletic seasonal status and self-objectification. State University of New York at Albany. p. 102. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |1= (help)(subscription required)

Please note that I removed your unique account ID from the URL and realised that doing so enabled me to see some of the article, which I couldn't before. Please make sure that links go to a publicly viewable version of the URL, and if information used for the article cannot be seen publicly, it is helpful to add the {{subscription}} tag so that readers know they need to be a site member/subscriber in order to read the whole article.

I do hope all this is helpful - again, thank you for your edits! :-) Mabalu (talk) 12:23, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
