Nomination of Society of American Silversmiths for deletion

Hello Mr. Herman. I'm an administrator here in Wikipedia, and I'd like to explain if I can what's going on. In many articles, the addition of external links is a sensitive topic, because many people spend a lot of time and effort inserting spam in articles. There's four million articles, so you can imagine how much of that we get every hour of every day. Now, the addition of a website you are associated with tends to be controversial, even if it is done in good faith. The ideal situation would have been for you to suggest the addition of the link in the talk page, to allow other editors to consider it for inclusion. Not everyone is an expert in Wikipedia rules and policies, so things like these tend to happen. It is not our intention to punish you in any way, and the removal of the link by Jevansen was routine and not in any way malicious, so we all need to assume good faith here and move past this. I have declined the deletion request on your userpage because it was not necessary - I understand you were attempting to communicate with the editor that removed your link. However, that's better done via the user's talk page, or on the article talk page itself. So again, I would recommend simply posting a message in the talk page suggesting the addition of the link you were attempting to add. Hi there! I appreciate the time you took to explain what's going on. If you feel the Society of American Silversmiths should be removed, I'll understand. Since 1989 when I founded the Society of American Silversmiths, I have only wanted to educate the public as to how silver objects are produced and to preserve and promote this misunderstood art form. And since 1984 when I started Herman Silver Restoration and Conservation, I have only wanted to educate the public about restoration and conservation, and how to care for their own silver collections. As you already know, there are many "experts" who feel their word is law, when in fact they know absolutely nothing about metal. I am here to offer the most thoroughly researched and practiced silver care information on the Internet.

Whatever you feel appropriate I will not argue.

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Sterling silver. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines.
