Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Placenames

[edit]

Information icon Please stop changing the names of places in our articles, to different spellings and/or names to those used as our article titles, as you did at Kumbh Mela. We use the Common names in English for our articles, not the "Official names", so changing the spelling/name breaks internal links to those articles, and is confusing to our readers - thank you - Arjayay (talk) 20:30, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Arjayay duck you Jimmy rog (talk) 05:26, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Arjayay Prayagraj is common name! Jimmy rog (talk) 07:27, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please stop changing the names of places in our articles, to different spellings and/or names to those used as our article titles, as you did at Allahabad, Allahabad Kumbh Mela, and Allahabad district. Trying to sneak the changes through by marking them as "minor edits" is not OK. When you edit the page on Allahabad, there is a big red notice saying: Notice: please do not change Allahabad to Prayagraj in this article.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:23, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Toddy1 Prayagraj is common name! Jimmy rog (talk) 07:28, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This has been discussed at Talk:Allahabad many times, and it was concluded that no further move requests should be made before 4 April 2023.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:29, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was debate between Offical name and Common name. The common name held water with respect to Allahabad few years after it was changed. However, it has been over five years of name change and it is very common name. Read newspapers. Even books published write prayagraj, not allahabad. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Allahabad. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. -- Toddy1 (talk) 07:43, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Jimmy rog! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Kumbh Mela that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. The edits you made indicated that you failed to read the entire paragraph, or if you did you failed to grasp its meaning. When making this kind of edit, it is best to check the sources cited, and to discuss issues on the article talk page.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:23, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Sections or article titles should generally not include the word "controversy" or "controversies". Sections within an article dedicated to negative criticisms are normally also discouraged. Best practice is to incorporate positive and negative material into the same section. See WP:CSECTION An edit you made to the article on Gautam Adani‎ has therefore been reverted and the controversy section deleted. If you feel that the text of the controversy section is better than the text in the career section, you are welcome to put that text into the career section.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:23, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for persistently making disruptive edits. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Daniel Case (talk) 08:21, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
