February 2017[edit]

There have been two problems identified with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Bishonen | talk 17:47, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your e-mail[edit]

Hi, Jmdfurniture, thank you for your e-mail. I'll answer here, for transparency. As the block notice said, Wikipedia doesn't allow usernames that represent a business or other organisation. An account must be for just one person, and *sound* like it's for one person. For instance, the username "John at JMD Furniture" would be acceptable, provided the account isn't used by any other representative of JMD (other people are free to create their own accounts). We don't allow "role accounts". The policy is here.

But that's not all. Since you're an employee of JMD Furniture — right? — you have a conflict of interest with regard to editing about your employer. Conflict of interest editing, which involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships, is strongly discouraged; please read the guideline Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. I'll summarize: best practice for an editor with a COI is not to edit articles directly (and certainly not create them, as you did) but to instead propose changes on article talk pages. An editor who is paid to edit Wikipedia, as I assume you are, is subject to more stringent rules: they're required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose who is paying them, who the client is, and any other relevant affiliation. Please see the guideline for how to do this, and other details.

Your best course of action is to appeal your block here on this page, using the template provided in my block notice. You're blocked from the rest of the site, but you can still post on this page, and using the template will generate code that calls an uninvolved admin here to review the block. This is supposed to be an advantage for you: you get a different admin, not the one who already blocked you (me). But I might as well tell you that if your only purpose on Wikipedia is to write about your company, no admin is likely to unblock you. Please read the instructions in the block notice attentively.
