Conflict of interest in Wikipedia[edit]

Hi JohannLeeBB. I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia, along with my regular editing. Your edits to date and your username make it appear that you are perhaps in the PR or digital marketing industry. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below.

Hello, JohannLeeBB. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID). Thank you.

Comments and requests[edit]

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. Here in Wikipedia such disclosures must be made explicitly. Would you please disclose any connection you have with the people about whom you have edited, directly or through a third party (e.g. a PR agency or the like)? After you respond (and you can just reply below), I can walk you through how the "peer review" part happens and then, if you like, I can provide you with some more general orientation as to how this place works. Hi, jytdog. i am not a part of any pr agency. i recently joined wikipedia and am mostly just editing whatever i get a chance to. i do see how you may think i am from a pr agency because of my edits but i'm not. please let me know if i have made any incorrect edits or done anything i shouldn't have. i'll undo those. like i said, i am pretty new here so not sure about how EVERYTHING works. also, i'd like to know if there is a community here just for editors or just for users that like to focus on creating pages. so far, i've enjoyed doing the cleanup the most since they are mostly about the language and tone and require only a tiny bit of researching on my own. in my real life, i am studying something relevant to pr or marketing, you could say.I'd like to keep private stuff private. However, i don't want my wiki to be affected by that and i don't think it has.JohannLeeBB (talk) 04:55, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to George Clinical, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary.
