Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Josy Joykutty! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 12:00, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

your image uploads[edit]

Can you please explain how all the images of church leaders are somehow your own work yet appear on their copyrighted websites? Please answer before continuing to edit. PICKLEDICAE🥒 14:32, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.   Salvio 15:47, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I will not repeat, please unblock me Josy Joykutty (talk) 05:01, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This is insufficient. Copyright violations potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, so in order to unblock you we must be convinced that you understand the reason for the block. Please read WP:COPVIO and tell us in your own words what copyright is, what Wikipedia's license is, and when and how copyrighted content can be used on Wikipedia. Your answers will help us determine if such edits will indeed not repeat. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 07:25, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I read about the WP:COPVIO, and my understanding is as follows: What is copyright:- COPYING material without the permission of the copyright holder or from sources other than the public domain or licensed material is likely a copyright violation. If such a copyright infringement has occurred, but I am not sure whether the source content is copyrighted or if the material has been copied from Wikipedia, then I should raise that concern on the discussion page. As a last resort, tag the page with [url=insert URL here, if known] unless concerns are resolved. What Wikipedia's license:- Wikipedia's text and many images are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License (CC BY-SA 3.0) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL 3.0). Contributors agree to release their original content under both licenses when they submit it. The copyright policy permits the use of material from public domain sources or other licenses as long as appropriate attribution is given. When and how copyrighted content can be used on Wikipedia:- Look for an older, non-infringing version of the page if all content on the page seems to violate copyright, this version needs to be restored. A page from an older version may be able to be rewritten from scratch, but if that is not possible, then the page will need to be deleted. 331dot and Salvio Kindly review my understanding, and please unblock me if possible Thank You Josy Joykutty (talk) 07:05, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to create a new account, but error message showing "This account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia". Block parameters still exist in my account are "editing (sitewide)" & "account creation disabled", Kindly advice ScottishFinnishRadish

Decline reason:

Through no fault of your own, you were given absolutely terrible advice by a troll pretending to be ScottishFinnishRadish. I want to be very, very clear. You are not permitted to create a new account and continue editing. Instead, you must successfully contest the block on this account by demonstrating you understand WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE. Putting an expiration date on the block would not demonstrate your understanding of it. The expiration is "when you demonstrate your understanding to the satisfaction of an administrator". You need to pick a single account to use and abandon the other one, never using it again. 331dot (talk) 13:15, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm using Josy Joykutty account only, Please guide me on how to abandon the other one 331dot

Zachariah Mar Anthonios moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Zachariah Mar Anthonios, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:00, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
