Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Jtinnell. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 18:05, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, though, are you suggesting that adding a link to a scholarly, peer-reviewed biography of Mark Weiser is not a useful reference for Mark Weiser’s Wikipedia page? 5 years of research went into my book - it is by no means “spam” and I don’t have any external relationship with Mark Weiser (he passed away in 1999). I would appreciate it if you reinstated my edit please. 67.190.29.149 (talk) 18:47, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am suggesting that promoting your book on Wikipedia is not useful. MrOllie (talk) 18:56, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It’s not useful to people who want to know more about Mark Weiser? 67.190.29.149 (talk) 18:58, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
