Olivia de Havilland

Olivia de Havilland (1916–2020) was a British, American and French actress. A member of the de Havilland family, her younger sister was the Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine, with whom she had a noted rivalry well documented by the media. During her career, de Havilland appeared in 49 feature films. She first came to prominence with Errol Flynn as a screen couple in adventure films such as Captain Blood (1935). Departing from ingénue roles in the 1940s, she went on to win two Academy Awards for Best Actress, for her roles in To Each His Own (1946) and The Heiress (1949). She received honours in the United States, the United Kingdom and France, including appointments to the Légion d'honneur and the Order of the British Empire. At the time of her death, she was widely considered the last surviving major star from the Golden Age of Hollywood. This 1985 photograph of de Havilland was taken by the Polish-born American photographer Bernard Gotfryd.

Dude, that's Allie, not Ali! - Alison 16:59, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was quite amusing, hope you're not growing dim! The amusing dude. Jumbos nemesis 17:09, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hope so, too! - Alison 17:46, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was the wrong side of sterling today and lost 300_G's. Nothing to do but write poetry. Now, not many people have poetry written about them. It was meant well, so sorry if it didn't go down too well. It was, I assure you written in an amicable frame of mind. Any, be well. Jumbos nemesis 17:35, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I never said it didn't go down well. It was kinda amusing all right :) I could use a little joy amidst the dirty job that adminship is, so I appreciate your poetry! So there. - Alison 17:45, 2 April 2007 (UTC) (has a sense of humour, y'know)[reply]

here - have a flower :) - Alison 19:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thanks Allie, that's very kind of you. I wrote that in 3 or 4 minutes flat, and hardly reviewed it. So here it is with typos and punct....

Now that Ali's in Admin!
Is she growing kind of dim?
Don't see her 'round the usual corners,
Perhaps she's under Jimbo's orders,
And even FLIP did disappear,
Has gone out east as a volunteer!
I heard that the queen has joined the Wiki,
Please don't block her as she gets quite sticky,
So on with the typos, and keep your nose clean,
Admin's no fun, see what I mean?

I'll have to get away from this computer, and get some sunshine. You're doing admirable at admin. Rock on! --Jumbos nemesis 02:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)BTW, dim as in not seeing so much around the usual pages, not the other d. JN[reply]

There was a old dear on wiki,
Who regarded my edits as sicky,
So I sat down beside her,
Alongside some cider,
Now all of my edits are icky.

I doubt she's much of a poet, really. Probably in real life, she's very different than you imagine; a little boring, a little geeky, a little shy and probably from de rong soide of de river. But she has survived the unimaginable. Trust me sir, she's really not your type at all. Maybe - just maybe - she was touched by your love and humour & maybe - just maybe - she's been hurt a lot along the way through life. If only you knew. Whatever on that, I guess you must have made her laugh too (and maybe cry, too, ever so slightly). Who knows? But I think she'd probably want you to know that. - Dumbos nematodes 06:53, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

She'd probably want you to have a flower too, no doubt. She's funny that way - Dumbos nematodes 06:53, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
