Question from Carnival deep (05:52, 8 May 2022)
How to edit new pages on wikipedia pages? --Carnival deep (talk) 05:52, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Carnival deep, not sure about what you are asking in your question, do you want to create a new page on Wikipedia? Justiyaya 06:20, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
Question from Rishixkumar (04:55, 9 May 2022)
Hello Mentor, I want to know more about Article Protection Policy and who can protect one article and how to protect it and which template should I use? Am I allowed to protect one article? --Pobir Laru (talk) 04:55, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Rishixkumar, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, what article do you want to protect and why? Justiyaya 06:09, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- I want Rashtrapati Bhavan, Himachal Pradesh, Satyameva Jayate, Mamata Banerjee, J. P. Nadda, Bhagwant Mann, Rajnath Singh, Ram Nath Kovind, Chandigarh, and Shimla to be semi-protected as these articles are of notable identities and government structural building, state and national motto of Republic of India ~ Pobir Laru (talk) 06:46, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't think that is possible, reviewing these, I don't see anything that might fit our protection guideline, please remember that preemptive protection is not allowed. There isn't current disruptive editing in these articles (from what I can see). please feel free to ask me if you need clarification @Rishixkumar. Justiyaya 07:08, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – May 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2022).
|
|
- Following an RfC, a change has been made to the administrators inactivity policy. Under the new policy, if an administrator has not made at least 100 edits over a period of 5 years they may be desysopped for inactivity.
- Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
- A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.
- Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.
APPLICATION FOR MENTORSHIP
I am looking for a mentor. I see you're taking in adoptees. I wanna go through a course under your tutelage for a period of time that you determine for a counter vandalism course and/or a course on proper page creation. After which I will be given rollback and/or new page reviewer privileges. I'm reaching out to you because I wanna do this the proper way. It will be a honor to learn. Cheers Amaekuma (talk) 17:02, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Amaekuma, you're sending quite a few requests for mentorships in the last hour or so, please wait for a day or two for replies before sending out any more. You mentioned wanting to pursue the NPR userright, which I don't think I'm qualified to teach, but many of the other users you sent a request to are and are probably willing to, so good luck, and happy editing! Justiyaya 17:59, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Justiyaya Okay. Thanks. I want to pursue NPR and rollbacking because I want to focus on anti vandalism for now. So I need the same mentor for the both or different mentors for each. Thanks for the feedback Amaekuma (talk) 20:23, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Alright I guess, happy editing! Justiyaya 12:18, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Antisz7 (17:43, 18 May 2022)
How do I create a page? I need to create one for Daniel A Johnson. Rahway, NJ. --Antisz7 (talk) 17:43, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Antisz7, welcome to Wikipedia! Are you sure the article doesn't already exist? If you are, please first ensure that you don't have a conflict of interest with the subject, if you do, follow the instructions on the linked page. Then, read WP:1st, essentially, make sure the subject is notable, mostly meaning having 3-4 reliable, independent sources that give significant coverage to the subject. Then start a draft via WP:AFC and submit it when it is ready. I would suggest, if you want to contribute to Wikipedia long term, that you pursue a different task instead, as writing a new article is a really discouraging process for beginners. Question from Suudyla (16:49, 20 May 2022)
How do I include inline citations? --Suudyla (talk) 16:49, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Suudyla, welcome to Wikipedia! Try reading Help:Referencing for beginners, I think that might help you. Justiyaya 17:05, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
Question from Sj1mor (10:12, 22 May 2022)
Hi, I used to machine translation regularly, from Hebrew and English, but now when i try translating from english I get the message "On the English Wikipedia machine translation is disabled for all users and this tool is limited to extended confirmed editors (see WP:CXT)." (On the hebrew viki i dont get any message; the translation simply doesnt work!). As the WP:CXT page suggests, I tried disabling and reenabling machine translation on the beta features but i still cannot use the tool. Please help, Shai --Sj1mor (talk) 10:12, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Sj1mor, thanks for leaving a message here. Admittedly I don't know a lot about translation but after some digging I think I have a basic understanding of what happened. Sometime during 2015-2016 the content translation tool was active with machine translation enabled, that was an error and should not have happened. About 95% of the articles that were produced by the tool needed significant work. So in 2016 I believe we had consensus to turn machine translation off for all users. To use the tool, you have to be extended confirmed, which means having make 500 edits locally to English Wikipedia, which you have not. A lot of en-wiki policies regarding this tool appear to be different than other wikis and the inconsistency is definitely frustrating. If you have any additional questions feel free to post them here, happy editing! Justiyaya 11:13, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
Question from Rishixkumar (10:09, 26 May 2022)
hi, the article Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education, Chandigarh, i created has been properly cited with all valid links and is not a promotional article or a paid article and the article has been created with new and different content available on government websites and other trusted sources but has been marked for speedy deletion. help me stop the deletion of this page. please verify the article with all links and help me not to lost this article --Pobir Laru (talk) 10:09, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Rishixkumar, thank you for posting a message here. The article is being speedy deleted not because it is promotional or paid but because it was previously determined to be not notable per an articles for deletion discussion. I do not have access to the original article so I can not determine what has changed since the article was first deleted 2 or so ago. Pinging Shirt58 as they tagged the article. Skimming over the sources, I don't think the article meets GNG, I'm unsure if a draftify would be appropriate. Justiyaya 10:20, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Justiyaya Thanks for replying but the article that I created now totally meets the notable policy according to Wikipedia, but the article was deleted without reviewing the content is not good, any changes to this article should have been bring to my notice so i could have figure out well but it is deleted. Please tell me how to save this page from deletion as nothing wrong in it. Tell me the procedure. Pobir Laru (talk) 10:32, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Please Rishixkumar first review our conflict of interest guidelines, you can still have a conflict of interest without being paid. Justiyaya 10:36, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from John D Simpson (19:33, 26 May 2022)
Article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_reservoirs_in_England_and_Wales_by_volume
The list of reservoirs by volume is missing at least one. It is Carsington Reservoir in Derbyshire operated by Severn Trent Water. According to your own Wiki page(1), it has a capacity of 35,412 megalitres (35,412,000 m3) and from Severn Trent's own page (2), it has a surface area of 300 hectares (3,000,000 m2). Can this table be updated, please? This problem has been identified by someone else back in 2017 and nothing has been done to resolve the commission. Just one other point. It is a river balancing reservoir so is not directly used to supply water in its own right.

2) https://www.visitcarsington.co.uk/about-carsington-water --John D Simpson (talk) 19:33, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- @John D Simpson I have zero to no knowledge on the topic and the editors who originally made both articles appear to be not very active. Consider doing it your self and boldly editing the two articles unless you have a conflict of interest with the subject, if you do, leave a message on both articles' talk page with

and the changes you want to make under it. Justiyaya 04:48, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
