Hi! Wikipedia has a visual editor you can utilise instead of using code. It's very friendly especially to new editors. Try making your user page! Click on your name on the top and give it a spin Thepenguin9 (talk) 19:16, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft Article

Please help me with... I recently created a new draft article for Legal & General America (the company I work for) to clarify the US structure and provide a history of the companies that exist under this umbrella. I added the request on Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Business_and_economics/Companies/F-L and also created a draft of the article at User:KHLGA/New article being sure to identify my COI. My question is, what is the process for how this might move forward? I'm fairly new to Wikipedia editing, have I properly cited the materials appropriately and provided all that I can for editors? You can follow the guidance here: Your First Article. Please be sure to disclose your CoI on the draft's talk page. The article as it currently stands would probably not be accepted because none of the sources are independent of the subject. Just some more general advice - it's great that you want to contribute to Wikipedia, but it's generally considered to be a bad idea that your first article should be your employer or a subject which which you are connected. @Salimfadhley: Thank you for the quick feedback, the chart on the notability page is really helpful. I feel as if some of the citations include independent sources, though I've adding more to the request for article page (I'm not sure if I should delete the others now?)
Regarding my first article being one with a COI, eek! I had no intention of being a bad editor, I was following the recommendations on the FAQs page Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations#I_think_my_organization_deserves_an_article_on_Wikipedia_but_none_exists._What_can_I_do? that suggests creating an article draft on your own subpage. Perhaps that is not quite accurate for new users? Do you recommend that I remove it? Or perhaps change the title to include COI or Draft? --KHLGA (talk) 20:36, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think a better way to do this is to write a short informational post here Talk:Legal & General explaining what you think is wrong. I do think you are better off staying away from this matter: Most companies have policies which prohibit their employees from making public statements on behalf of that company. I think that would almost certainly prohibit you from editing a Wikipedia page about your company. Unless that's your job (and you'd know if it was) - it's just not your job. Stay away from it. Your activity should be limited to providing other editors with links to information which will help them correct the article. --Salimfadhley (talk) 20:46, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
