Welcome![edit]

Hello, Trinity College London, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Trinity College London, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Theroadislong (talk) 08:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

October 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Trinity College London", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 08:36, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Trinity College London, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Brookie :) { - he's in the building somewhere!} (Whisper...) 09:30, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the three important principles above. Yunshui  13:40, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yunshui Thanks for your comments. I do understand about conflicts of interest and that Wikipedia is not a business directory. In fact, that is precisely why I identified myself the way I did - so no-one could think that we were trying to promote the organisation. We were simply correcting inaccuracies on the page. I'm very happy for anything to be changed if it feels like promotion - in fact, another editor deleted a couple of things because he thought they were 'marketing speak' and that's absolutely fine. If it's simpler, I can create a different account. However, the page is now up to date. Best wishes. Trinity College London (talk) 13:57, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine - those are just the standard questions for a user in your position, and at least one doesn't apply to you anyway. I've unblocked your account to allow you to request a username change; you should go to this page and follow the instructions there as soon as you can.
