Hey. Welcome to Wikipedia. Your recent edit to rape culture was reverted. The reason for this is that large content removal usually is decided by consensus. I also wanted to warn you that the edit you made seems like a suspicious first edit. You might want to start small. Nezzadar (speak) 18:00, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Then I would like to bring a complaint about the addition of the Melissa McEwan material presented on that page because it is only a blogger's opinions that is being presented. The assertions have no basis in any substantive feminist discussion nor have they been published or reviewed by anyone. This is quite different from everything else presented on that page, which lists well-known feminists who have made comments regarding the topic of rape culture in published media. Essentially, the addition is little more than a giant trackback to McEwan's site, which means the page is being used purely for self-promotion. Likewise, there is no informative value in any of the items listed as they simply link to McEwan's opinion pages, not to other wikipages or substantiated outside sources demonstrating the veracity of the opinions presented. For the record, I posted the Melissa McEwan material, and have never met, nor have any relation to, nor am, Melissa McEwan. I just thought it was the best material I've ever read that laid out "rape culture" in plain terms. Her posts trace back to original sources, which I suppose I will eventually go through and substitute for her self-sourced items. Abarbadoro
Okay, this is beyond me. I urge you to find someone who is more experienced in the issues of original works. In the mean time, let's not change anything. K? Nezzadar (speak) 18:27, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would do a great disservice to anyone linking to the page, especially since none of the information is verified in any way and quite of a bit of it is factually inaccurate (such as McEwan's claim that only 1 in 33 men are victims of sexual abuse. The current accepted statistic is 1 in 6). It may be reasonable to acknowledge that the neutrality of the section is disputed, particularly given that the author of that section admits to simply copying McEwan's self-sourced material verbatim without bothering to check it for its neutrality its accuracy.Korubin (talk) 18:38, 14 October 2009 (UTC)korubin[reply]

The essay was added with a very clear acknowledgment that it was a "simple copy" of McEwan's work, also known as an excerpt. It is very much in line with mainstream feminist thought. I would resolve to acknowledge that the neutrality of the section is disputed. Abarbadoro (talk) 18:52, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Abarbadoro[reply]
Right, so the more experienced editors say that a blog is not a source, so it needs to go or get better citations. I'll leave it to you two. Nezzadar (speak) 19:06, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
