Please do not delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Talk:There are no atheists in foxholes. Such edits are disruptive and appear to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Old Moonraker (talk) 09:45, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen your request for assistance at Editor assistance/Requests, and have made a reply there. I hope my reply answers your concerns, but if you have any further questions about the issues you raised then please feel welcome to contact me on my talk page. As you can see, I have also addressed the user name issue above. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:39, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A few tips[edit]

Hi, Larry, and welcome to Wikipedia. I saw your posting to the Editor Assistance Request page and followed the links to your page. In the course of that I noticed some of your edits, and wound up undoing a couple as not really consistent with Wikipedia policy. Having done so I thought I'd drop you a note and include one or two useful links so that you can become more familiar with the way Wikipedia operates, and avoid similar pitfalls in the future. For instance one of Wikipedia's main tenets is that it reflect a neutral point of view. This is set forth on this page - WP:NPOV. You plainly have a point of view on a variety of matters and you should take care not to let it seep into your editing. Similarly Wikipedia is not a soapbox or platform for espousing particular points of view - go have a look at WP:Not for a general overview there. Finally (for this note at least), Wikipedia is not an original source of information but rather a compendium of information already collected or generated by others. So any addition to Wikipedia should be supported by a link to a third party source, in particular one that meets the test of reliability. Have a look here: WP:Reliable. These links are really just to get you started; but if you read those pages, and follow further links from them, after a bit you'll have a better sense of how this encyclopedia is built and maintained. I hope this is helpful - welcome, and enjoy your editing! JohnInDC (talk) 20:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Personal/promotional information and advocacy[edit]

Hi. I've noticed that you've been leaving your telephone number in some posts and on your user page. I've removed it from your userpage and would be grateful if you would not continue to advertise it because Wikipedia is not for advocacy, propaganda, or recruitment of any kind (quite apart from any privacy issues that may arise). Our purpose is merely to document and record reliable secondary sources of information on topics that we believe to be notable. I strongly recommend taking JohnInDC's wise words, in his talk page reply to your post, to heart; if you are here to advocate any sort of agenda you'll find Wikipedia to be a frustrating and stressful place, and will very likely be prevented from editing the site in fairly short order. This is especially important if you intend to write some sort of autobiographical article. Once posted (and assuming it is deemed to be notable) it will pass completely out of your control and become biographical. Our neutrality policy will lead to the removal of any apparent advocacy, and our sourcing policy means that it will be edited to include reliable sources (in Wikipedia terms, newspaper reports, court judgements etc) while unreliable sources (in Wikipedia terms, private websites, your unsupported opinion etc) will be removed. The article could very well evolve into the exact opposite of what you'd hoped for. To make it worse, our conflict of interest policy would exclude you from further editing of the article, although you could still make suggestions on the talk page. The pattern of your edits so far indicates that you may be here for reasons incompatible with Wikipedia's goals, so I really hope this helps to clarify things for you before they get out of hand.
