February 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Kent do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Nlu (talk) 11:17, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

{{Uw-spamublock}} Mjroots (talk) 11:50, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • This may seem harsh for one edit, but your username is in violation of WP:ORGNAME. You may want to forget this account ever existed and create a new account. Please read the pages linked from the Welcome Notice which will give you a idea of what Wikipedia is, and what it is not. Wikipedia welcomes editors who wish to contribute constructively to the project. Your edit seems to have been made in good faith, but for some editors it is a steep learning curve to begin with. {{unblock-spamun reviewed}}

Promoting tourism in Kent, however noble your intentions, is contrary to the purpose and aims of Wikipedia, which is the reason for this block. You will need to understand that if this block is to be lifted. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:36, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:LINKFARM and WP:SPAM. You will not be permitted to add those links; ever. Do you still wish to contribute as per policy? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 20:04, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Subject to the agreement of HJMitchell, I am willing to grant your unblock request solely for the purpose of changing your username to <redacted>, which is within policy, although some people prefer not to use real names (your decision). In effect, you will be restricted solely to editing in connection with a request to change your user name, and this talk page and your user page, neither of which shall be used to promote your website. Such restriction to be logged at WP:RESTRICT whilst it is in effect. Once you show that you understand the policy on spamming, then you may be unblocked completely. Mjroots (talk) 09:30, 7 February 2011

Hi, please can you unblock my account. As I said before I would like to change my account name. I do not intend to edit or post to wikipedia anymore in relation to my company. I'm more concerned about being listed as a spammer on wiki and would ask you to remove Let's Visit from the list of 'blocked indefinitely' as it is a negative show on my company. My intentions were not to spam but it was an honest mistake on my part. I would like to think that Wiki understands this was not intentional and as such would remove any negative listings. I fully understand the policy on spamming now and agree to adhere to them in future.

Hi, I'm waiting to hear from HJ Mitchell first, but the above is encouraging. HJ should be around before too long. Indefinitely does not mean "forever", it merely means "without a set limit of time". As has been said, your edits were made in good faith, and the spamming was not malicious. Had it not been for the username issue, then I would not have blocked for a single edit, but pointed you towards the relevant policies. Further action would then only have been necessary if the spamming continued after you had been told that what you were doing was wrong. Mjroots (talk) 16:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked[edit]

I've unblocked you, following discussion with HJ Mitchell. I'm not going to restrict you from editing across Wikipedia, but would warn you against inserting a link to your website on any page - will discuss with you later the limited circumstances such links may be added. Please go ahead with your username request. If you need any help in doing this, drop me a line on my talk page. Mjroots (talk) 20:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have no intention of adding a link to my website to any wiki page. However I am still curious to know how others seem to have managed it. I will change my username now. Thanks again. UPDATE: On reflection of what you said about not using my real name I have changed my username to The Guvnor (not exactly my top pick but most are already taken) I hope it's ok - I think it should be within guidelines. If not please let me know and I'll change it again.

Your new user name is fine. Don't forget to sign your posts with four tildes ~~~~ so that the software can create your signature. Mjroots (talk) 08:19, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page refactored[edit]

I'm sure you don't want those ugly block notices hanging around like a badge of shame. They've served their purpose and are no longer necessary. To keep the conversation on this page in some sort of sense, I've converted the warnings to links to the templates. Mjroots (talk) 08:19, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User page[edit]

Do you own the website? If so, there is a legitimate place that you may link to it from - your user page. See WP:UP for details of what you may and may not have on your user page. One thing that is allowed is a userbox stating that you own a website, and the website may be added as a link from that userbox. {{User:Octane/userboxes/User website|url here}} produces the userbox. See WP:UBX/COMPUTING. Mjroots (talk) 08:42, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
