KAOKOVELD(KAOKOLAND),Namibia

Kaokoveld (also called Kaokoland ) is one of the most pristine regions in Northern Namibia found in Kunene region in the far northwest of Namibia.Kaokoveldis the wildest area and less populated. It is home to about 15.000 Himba, semi-nomadic pastoral people, who have kept their ethnic individuality and culture in Kaokoland. The main settlement in Kaokoland is the city of Opuwo. The area is inaccessible to some vehicles because there are often rocky or of deep, soft sand and hardly posted signs. There is no acccommondation found at Kaokoveld but only a few campsites. Many travellers just sleep out in the wilderness.[1].

Kaokoland is bordered on the south the Hoanib River and on the north the Kunene River which forms Namibia's border with Angola. It is a world of incredible mountain scenery, a refuge for the rare desert dwelling elephant, black rhino and giraffe.Kaokoland is probably most famous for it's desert elephant in terms of wildlife.[2].
