Photo licensing

[edit]

Hello, the photo you mentioned was uploaded under specific permission for Wikipedia's use, as you noted. However, Wikipedia's policies do not permit us to use images (or other content) that is licensed specifically and only to Wikipedia -- one of the important goals of our project is to make/acquire content that can be reused by other projects, be they other encyclopedias, handheld devices, or similar. Any content licensed only for Wikipedia and not available for further reuse runs contrary to those goals, and as a result our policies do not permit us to keep such images. If you can get the photo released under a general open license so that anyone can use it, we can accept it (although many photographers may be reluctant to permit such). Take care, and happy new year. --Improv 14:13, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, what if the owner allows the photos to be used for educational purposes? What license is that? Can we use photos under this license in the English Wikipedia? Happy Colombus day to you.--Lizrael 20:47, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't believe we can accept images with that restriction either -- it needs to be open to the world for general use. Our image policy is fairly strict, so a lot of people unfortunately find it difficult to deal with at first. Take care. --Improv 03:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So under what restricting license can I put it here? --Lizrael 11:36, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The author can use any of the licenses in the "For image creators" section at Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags. You may want to talk with one of the volunteers at Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#Members for more details. --Improv 17:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I contacted Angela hopefully she can help me. Lizrael 14:52, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a book in Hebrew, but I don't know if you can put it as a source in this Wikipedia. I don't really care if it stays or goes, I just don't like edits there are based on politics. As far as I know you're supposed to ask for sources (like this.[citation needed]

), not delete anything you don't like. Lizrael 12:26, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User page edit

[edit]

I edited your userpage. I hope you don't mind. I like your username. Goodbye. gren グレン 08:16, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, no problem. As long as I've got your attention, you should remove the wrong date birth in Al-Jazari. 1206 was the year he published one of his major works, his father died in 1200, so the latest date for his birth is 1201. I didn't want to change it myself, because people might revert it, since I'm new here. Lizrael 11:07, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting Vandalism

[edit]

Hey. Thanks for reverting vandalism at Mountain biking. However, your revert, introduced vandalism that was hidden by the page blanking. Please check the history before reverting a page if the same ip address edits many times in a row, particularly if the most recent was vandalism, and revert all the changes. Thanks again for your help. Goodnightmush 19:23, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, won't happened again :) Lizrael 19:50, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for your continued support. I am sorry i cannot read hebrew otherwise i would have loved to read your articles :) I dont know why they are making such a big issue of those pictures... first they wanted to delete my article and now my pictures. I dont use widipedia much and i am learning as I go but this is totally ridiculous. Anyway, thanks for the support :) Jinanez 09:15, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think they were convinced by your argument, because the article and the photos are staying (Thank God!). When will your grandfathers biography get published? and in what language? Lizrael 10:16, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you did manage to find me. I am very impressed since I don't think I told you my username.

Well in any event if you need any admin help with editing in English don't hesitate to ask. Jon513 (talk) 09:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You probably think I'm some kind of novice, if you chose to reply here :) I do have some skills for tracking people down. If I get into any trouble here, I'll make sure to approach you, thank you. Lizrael (talk) 13:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Deleting my sand box

[edit]

User pages use a subpage structure (see Wikipedia:Subpages). The software only recognizes subpages as pages following a / in certain namespaces. (Which is why things like talk page archives are always /Archive_1, /Archive_2, etc.) Thus, your page wasn't in your user space, but was in fact floating in the user namespace. Your page has been restored to User:Lizrael/SandBox. There's no need to move the text anywhere off-site, as long as it's in a subpage of your user name. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 19:08, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I didn't know the page has been restored in some other address. Lizrael (talk) 19:16, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Israeli Mafia: They exist in the news, but not on Wikipedia (en nor he)

[edit]

Just tooling around en and he wikipedias following many news references to the Abutbul crime family in the news. On English wikipedia, all I can find is this pathetic article: Asi Abutbul. They aren't even mentioning Asi in the news. Google news search returns a: Francois, Charlie and Adam Abutbul at first glance. The most suspicious thing of all is that there appears to be no article about the Abutbul family at all on hebrew wikipedia. Though these guys may be second rate criminals compared to the big fish of the English speaking world, in Israel they would certainly rank. Yet [1] (category: israeli criminals) on hebrew wikipedia has no mention. It seems that wikipedia is falling behind if the israeli papers are running stories about these guys every week and they have no entry. What do you think? Mdanziger (talk) 08:17, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for responding so late, I couldn't understand where you left a message, I assumed it won't be here because I didn't tell you my user name here, and with my crazy work hours recently, I don't visit Wiki as much as I used to.
Anyway, I think they deserve an article in Hebrew. But there's a difficulty to write articles on organized crime families - most of the information about their activities is classified, or just not reported. It's hard to write anything worthwhile from several newspaper clippings. Other families, like the Abarjils, the Alperons, the Ohanas and the Ohayons don't have articles. Zeev Rosenstein and the Parinian brothers have an article, but that's only after being taken into custody (meaning, when a lot of information about them became unclassified ahead of trial). So, I don't think it's very suspicious that they don't have articles here on in He wiki. Lizrael (talk) 20:35, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Hi, I found that you have mentioned that you live in a settlement in the west bank. I want to ask you respectly, do you think you have the right to live there although it is an occupied territory and it is not a part of Israel? --Colombos (talk) 19:42, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I lived with my parents in a settlement but no longer live there and I strongly oppose the occupation of the Palestinian territories. Lizrael (talk)

Article translation challenge

[edit]

Hi! I see you are an active Wikipedian who is fluent in both English and Russian and am hoping you can help with the backlog of articles that need translation from Russian Wikipedia. I have pre-screened and compiled a list of the most important articles needing translation from Russian Wikipedia, all of which meet our notability requirements and most of which are available in multiple languages but not English. The longest list, the biography list, consists mostly of Heroes of the Soviet Union, Heroes of the Russian Federation, top snipers and flying aces of the Great Patriotic War, and a couple Women in Red, and frequently used redlinks. For ten full articles written from the list you will receive a Writer's barnstar; 25 or more will result in a barnstar of national merit; 50 will result in the awarding of the Translation Barnstar, and any user who translates 100 articles in full will be awarded the Rosetta Barnstar. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the project, and I look forward to seeing the new articles. Thank you, --PlanespotterA320 (talk) 00:35, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
