June 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Aspening. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Local eGovernment have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Aspening (talk) 04:10, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Longhair\talk 04:13, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

LocalGov Digital is an association for local government officers in the UK, not a private company. You can read more about it here https://localgov.digital/about}. The changes made to this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_eGovernment reflect the work we did with the UK Government Digital Service to establish a standard for UK local authorities, this is not a commercial product. You are actually advertising a commercial product, Better Connected from by Boilerhouse Media (under the SocITM banner) on this page

Decline reason:

Whether it is a commercial product or simply an organisation is not relevant here. Please reread the block message above. If you wish to change your username and are willing to avoid writing about subjects for which you have a conflict of interest, you are welcome to request another block review. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I'm happy to have my username changed to "remikz23" and am happy to avoid writing about subjects for which I have a conflict of interest

Decline reason:

I am declining this request at this time, as you have said what you will not edit about, but not what you will edit about. In order to unblock you, an administrator must be assured that you will be a productive editor that benefits the project. If you have no intention of making any edits, there is no reason to unblock you. If you need time to figure out what it is that you want to edit about, or which articles you want to edit, you are welcome to take as much time as you need and make a new unblock request once you can state what it is you want to do here. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 20:44, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • What subjects would you edit about? 331dot (talk) 20:38, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not sure yet. Do you need to select all the pages you'd like to edit before you create a user? Localgovdigital (talk) 20:38, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, but in order to be unblocked an administrator must be assured that a blocked user will make productive edits, and knowing what you are interested in editing would help. 331dot (talk) 22:32, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Globally renamed 'Localgovdigital' to 'Remikz23'. Just Chilling (talk) 18:30, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have a wide range of interests. For example I like historic maps, cricket, breakbeat music, and growing chilli plants. At this time I do not wish to edit pages on these subjects though. If you would like to know more of my interests please do let me know and I will be happy to oblige.Remikz23 (talk)
I don't need to know what your interests are; I wanted to know what it is that you want to do here since you have only told us what you won't edit. You are welcome to make a new unblock request, which a different administrator will review, once you can state what it is that you want to edit about. 331dot (talk) 20:46, 14 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My interests will define what I may wish to edit, but at this time I cannot say specifically which pages they may be. Others interests are Arsenal Football Club and cheese. These and my previously stated interests are the most likely topics I would like to edit at this time. This whole process and level of interrogation seems a bit strange. Can you point me to the guidance that says I need to do this before I am unblocked please? Remikz23 (talk) 09:36, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As I indicated, if blocked, it is your responsibility to convince an administrator that you understand what you did, won't do it again, and you will be a productive contributor. You've done the first two OK, but not the third. Please read the Guide to appealing a block if you haven't already. One part states "Promise, credibly, that you will stop doing whatever got you blocked. Earn back our trust by proposing improvements to articles or proposing firm steps you will take so the issue cannot happen again." Another states "Say how you intend to help contribute to the encyclopedia after you are unblocked. See here for some ideas about what you could do.". If you have no specific intentions of making any edits, or don't know what you want to edit, there is no need to unblock you as you would not be a productive contributor. As I indicated, there is no rush to decide. If you don't yet know, feel free to take time to figure out what you want to edit and then make a new request. You are also free to make a new request right now(which, as I said, will be reviewed by someone else either way) but without stating what you want to do here, the likelihood of success is low in my opinion. 331dot (talk) 10:23, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
