Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! You recently added an external link to YouTube in an article. It has been removed because the link pointed to a non-encyclopedic source.

Per WP:COPYRIGHT:
External sites can possibly violate copyright. Linking to copyrighted works is usually not a problem, as long as you have made a reasonable effort to determine that the page in question is not violating someone else's copyright. If it is, please do not link to the page. Knowingly and intentionally directing others to a site that violates copyright has been considered a form of copyright infringement in the United States (Intellectual Reserve v. Utah Lighthouse Ministry). Also, linking to a page that illegally distributes someone else's work sheds a bad light on Wikipedia and its editors. If the site in question is making fair use of the material, linking is fine.

Please refer to Wikipedia's policy on external links for more information.
  1. The Mediabase page lists the song at number 154 on the Top 40 chart, not 136.

Unspecified source for Image:Hilary Duff pic.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hilary Duff pic.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 03:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hilary Duff pic.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 03:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Hilary Duff pic.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hilary Duff pic.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 03:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hilary Duff

[edit]

Your violation of WP:FU on Hilary Duff has been reverted. --Yamla 03:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You said: "Hey, i dunno if its you but that picture of hilary duff that i beleive you keep putting back up sucks! It doesnt even look like her! The one i keep putting back up is 1000000% nicer! Can i just email you the picture and you can put it on permanently? If you go to the discussions board on the hilary duff page, everyone hates that picture of her with the kid! "

No. That image is unusable. Once again, please read WP:FU. Thanks. --Yamla 03:13, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GFDL

[edit]

Your changes to Image:Hilary Duff.jpg have been reverted. You can't just wish an image to be licensed under the GFDL. Unless you have and present specific evidence, please do not use this tag again. Virtually no images are released under a free license, let alone the GFDL. --Yamla 03:35, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The same goes for Image:Home graphic.jpg, Image:Winit 11064 lg.jpg, and Image:AD wallpaper1600.jpg. As you are currently having severe problems with images, I would ask that you please stay away from images for a while, at least until you have read and understood WP:FU and become familiar with image copyright and fair-use. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously as your actions are putting Wikipedia itself at risk of copyright-infringement lawsuits. --Yamla 03:37, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OMG i give up!

[edit]

You said: "k i am new to this wikipeida stuff and i have no clue about the copyright crap. and this person keeps emailing me saying its not right and that the pictures i keep putting up will be deleted. So does anyone know how to keep the pictures up?!! without them being deleted? Cuz now all the picures on the With Love... Hilary Duffpage will be deleted and it was finally starting to look good!"

I will not ask you again. Read WP:FU. --Yamla 03:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

K i was not talking to you. I dont care how many times you have told me. I DONT UNDERSTAND THE STUPID WP:FU page. Holy crap...if you could just help me? Or just fix it by yourself! The one picture of Hilary Duff IS NOT COPYWRITED. It was an outtake on a photoshoot.

What makes you think it is not copyrighted? Unless the photographer and/or the photographer's employer released the copyright, it most certainly is copyrighted. And we can't tell without a specific source. However, even you claimed the image was copyrighted when you first uploaded it, albeit with a false license. If you don't understand WP:FU, your best bet is to avoid images. They are a nasty complicated matter even for people who do understand the policies. --Yamla 03:51, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blanking

[edit]

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to Talk:Hilary Duff. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! --Yamla 15:15, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove tags such as {{fact}} from articles unless you replace them with reliable citations. Those tags are needed to signal to other editors that the info needs citing. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 12:34, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
