Notability of authors

[edit]

Hi there, you were given a misleading comment by one of your previous AfC reviewers - we actually don't need extensive, non-interview coverage on authors, who are generally considered to be notable and worthy of a standalone article if they have multiple notable books. The easiest rule of thumb is that you need to find 2 books with 2 reviews each. The reviews need to be WP:RS ones (so a self-hosted blog won't count), but no bio coverage is necessary. If you have an author who has written academic nonfiction, it's always good to go looking for academic reviews of their books, which tend to be pretty in-depth and are basically always WP:RS. I easily found some for RB Kelly and accepted it. -- asilvering (talk) 19:51, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Asilvering how did you find the sources about On the Brink? I searched (including just using her name) but could not find anything (Google, ProQuest and JSTOR).
Mareotis, I still suggest an article about Edge of Heaven. It's an easy pass. S0091 (talk) 20:23, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@S0091 I didn't add any sources about On the Brink! The ones I added were for Mark Antony and Popular Culture. -- asilvering (talk) 20:46, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I agree, Edge of Heaven is an easy pass. But imo it's better to expand the biography article with it first, then spin it out into a separate Edge of Heaven article if it gets too big. Right now she's only got the three books so it's easy to cover it all in one place without it getting overwhelming. -- asilvering (talk) 20:48, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Asilvering Hmm, not sure now why I thought you had lol. Personally, I would have started with the book(s) first then backed into the author if enough bio sources existed but it's chicken/egg and can it see it either way. Sorry to take up your talk page Mareotis! Congrats on your first article! It's not an easy feat. S0091 (talk) 21:10, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much to you both! I'm sorry to have got so much wrong to begin with but I'm absolutely stoked to have got there in the end :-) Mareotis (talk) 21:57, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
