Sorry

[edit]

Dear Menaechmi, sorry I missed that. Thanks.--A.S. Brown (talk) 20:01, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for starting that discussion, and for your help on Scott. Editing here can sometimes test one's civility, but also good to deal with good editors who behave well. Cheers!--A.S. Brown (talk) 21:18, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A help request

[edit]

Dear Menaechmi, thank you for your kind words! Please help me. I just test a function on Wiki, and I made a big mistake. Please delete my attempts here: NME. Sorry, next time I will be more cautious. Thank you very much!--Flzn (talk) 14:05, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Flzn: No worries, just to be sure: you want the page Filmzene.net deleted? I've marked it for deletion, so if that is not what you'd like, if you let me know quickly I can remove the notice. :) We're glad to have you here, and accidents happen all the time. menaechmi (talk) 14:11, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Menaechmi: Thank you for your note! I guess I was wrong, but I did not edited the NME site but the Filmzene.net, in fact here is no problem. :) I created a Wikipedia page a few months ago for my nonprofit music site, the Filmzene.net, but it was only in hungarian until now. I would like to make the english version too. I used the NME page to practice (because NME is a similar music journal than the Filmzene.net), so I did not want to save the modifications on NME. I thought I saved it, but not. So please do NOT delete anything! :) Thank you for your help! --Flzn (talk) 18:48, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Flzn: Phew, I'm glad I asked. I have removed the deletion request, and the article wasn't deleted yet. I'm always glad to help, so feel free to ask if you need anything else. If you're worried about more accidental mistakes to something like the NME page again, I recommend checking out your sandbox at: User:Flzn/sandbox, which will let you do all the testing you like. menaechmi (talk) 19:03, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Menaechmi: It is a good idea, I will take your advice. Thank you very much for your help! --Flzn (talk) 20:12, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello Menaechmi. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join o r start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Alex ShihTalk 16:15, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and clarification of Draft:Outline of JavaScript

[edit]

Dear Menaechmi,

Thank you for defending the Draft:Outline of JavaScript.

The draft is nowhere near ready to be moved to article space. Once it is ready, it will definitely be moved there and become part of the set of outline articles listed at Portal:Contents/Outlines.

Sometimes, somebody sees that an outline has the same (or part of the same) lead section as the root article, and concludes that the outline is a fork, not realizing that it is in fact a list per MOS:LIST and WP:STAND. The lead section is included to assist in topic identification, so that the reader knows what the outline (structured list) is about.

Another source of confusion is that the word "outline" has more than one meaning. It can mean "overview of a subject", but in that context the word describes every article on Wikipedia!

In list titles on Wikipedia, we use "outline" in the academic sense. It is short for "Hierarchical outline", which would be awkward to include in titles. This usage of the word is standard in the encyclopedia industry, in which publishers definitely use the short form ("outline"). Britannica created their Outline of Knowledge as the basis of the content of their 15th Edition. Longer articles in the Worldbook Encyclopedia include an outline at the end of each of those articles.

But for someone to see a list of blue-linked topics on Wikipedia as a programming guide, well, that's a new one. :)

For even more information on hierarchical outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Again, thank you.

Sincerely, The Transhumanist 04:01, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Moving drafts

[edit]

This is Sushant from Sushn345wiki. I read the message which you left on my talkpage. I now understand the criteria for eligibility for a user to move drafts, and I will follow those criteria. Sushn345wiki (talk) 10:47, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Phi Theta Sigma

[edit]

I declined your speedy deletion request for Phi Theta Sigma -- the university itself has pages on this fraternity, and mentions some recent graduates who belong. (http://www.wpunj.edu/articles/efocus/2017-05-15/william-paterson-faculty-staff-and-their-families-receive-degrees/) These were the first several listings in a google search for "Phi Theta Sigma" william paterson, so not hard to find. --Fabrictramp | talk to me 03:03, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Fabrictramp: thank you for the notice. As I saw it, the claim that they are a fraternity founded on December 1, 2016 at a relatively small university wasn't a credible claim that would cause them to be notable, and that the article was written pretty promotionally. But you disagree with that, and there are other options for the article. If you have any tips to making sure I can get it right 100% of the time, I would appreciate it. menaechmi (talk) 13:28, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You tagged it as "made up by the creator" (A11), which is very different from not notable.--Fabrictramp | talk to me 13:44, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, well, that's right. I think saw it was made by "Dr. Ryan J. Rebe" and the page was created by DrRyanJRebe (talk · contribs) and tagged it as A11? or meant to tag it G11? I'm pretty sure I just put my foot in it. Either way, thanks :) menaechmi (talk) 13:59, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Damien Fahrenfort

[edit]

Hello Menaechmi. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Damien Fahrenfort, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not created by a banned user, or the page does not violate the user's ban. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:03, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

[edit]
Hello Menaechmi/2017, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 16,991 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.

Technology update:

  • Rentier has created a NPP browser in WMF Labs that allows you to search new unreviewed pages using keywords and categories.

General project update:

  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community Tech team is working with the community to implement the autoconfirmed article creation trial. The trial is currently set to start on 7 September 2017, pending final approval of the technical features.
  • Please remember to focus on the quality of review: correct tagging of articles and not tagbombing are important. Searching for potential copyright violations is also important, and it can be aided by Earwig's Copyvio Detector, which can be added to your toolbar for ease of use with this user script.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, go here. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:33, 24 August 2017 (UTC) [reply]

DYK for Jugendkulturhaus Dynamo

[edit]

On 29 August 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jugendkulturhaus Dynamo, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Jugendkulturhaus Dynamo, a youth center in Zürich, was built from an old brewery after youth riots in the city were sparked by a grant of 61,000,000 Swiss francs to the Zürich Opera? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jugendkulturhaus Dynamo. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Jugendkulturhaus Dynamo), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
