A summary of some important site policies and guidelines
[edit]- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. All we do here is cite, summarize, and paraphrase professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources, without addition, nor commentary.
- Wikipedia is not censored. If material is reliably sourced, it is given due weight.
- We do not publish original thought nor original research.
- Reliable sources typically include: articles from mainstream magazines or newspapers (particularly scholarly journals), or books by recognized authors (basically, books by respected publishers). Online versions of these are usually accepted, provided they're held to the same standards. User generated sources (like Wikipedia) are to be avoided. Self-published sources should be avoided except for information by and about the subject that is not self-serving (for example, citing a company's website to establish something like year of establishment).
- Articles are to be written from a neutral point of view. Wikipedia is not concerned with facts or opinions, it just summarizes reliable sources. Real scholarship actually does not say what understanding of the world is "true," but only with what there is evidence for.
- Biographies of persons assumed to be alive are held to especially high standards of verifiability -- all unsourced information may be removed, no matter how plausible.
Also, not a policy or guideline, but Wikipedia is generally incompatible with racist fascism. That said, removing noteworthy information about the activities of neo-Nazis (such as removing information about Fashwave at Synthwave) runs the risk of normalizing alt-right activities. If Fashwave isn't it's own genre that we can all hate on, and we don't discuss it in the article, it's entirely possible that a synthwave fan might stumble on that some Fashwave shit and not realize what artist they're supporting. Hell, some popular YouTubers (can't say who because of the last bullet point above) pretty regularly smile and wink at Nazism but a lot of normies buy into their lines that "it was just a joke" or "I'm just covering both sides of a political issue" or "I'm just asking questions" or "I'm just discussing some traditional belief systems and don't understand why leftists always make a big deal out of these things." - Read the above paragraph again. What part of that gave you any idea that I'm the least bit sympathetic to Nazism? The article doesn't cite Nazi sources, it cites independent, mainstream sources discussing their activities. And if you continue making personal attacks, you will end up being blocked.
