Hi, welcome, but don't go overboard[edit]

Hi, Appreciate your attempts to help out with the horse articles by requesting photos and putting in infoboxes, but please be more careful about what you do. I had to do considerable editing of the infoboxes to make them look clean and well-formatted. If there isn't material to add to a particular infobox section, you need to remove the elipses ( the "..." bits) so that the heading stays out of the box as it appears to readers until we have info to insert. Also, please format the images properly, you can't just cut and paste the whole wikiink, it is formatted differently in an infobox. Because they are kind of tricky, please be sure to preview and see how the whole article looks overall, then fix any errors. I also had to rearrange other photos on some of the pages, and, well, generallyjust take a lot of time cleaning things up. It is kind of a pain to have to go and fix the same set of mistakes a half-dozen times. Also, be sure to use factual, accurate material derived from the article for the "features" sections and such, be encyclopedic, don't just say random and not entirely accurate things (expecially when they contradict the content of the article) like "the Morgan is primarily a show horse." I do appreciate your enthusiasm, but wikipedia needs content and references and photos way more than it needs cut and paste templates--it would be better to slowly add a few very nice infoboxes rather than a bunch of poorly formatted ones. I hope you can see what I have done and do something similar in the future. Thanks! Montanabw 05:09, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Additions to the list[edit]

Hope you want to write stubs for all those red links you just added to the list of horse breeds.

New articles[edit]

Be sure that any new articles you create on horse breeds are listed both under Category:Horse breeds and in list of horse breeds. Please also reference your source. You may want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Horse breeds for further guideance. The other new articles you are creating on horse diseases may be more appropriate as expansions within existing articles, and all need to be more carefully referenced, I have found a number of serious inaccuracies in some of them, again a problem that might be allieviated if you cite your sources. Remember: WP:Verifiability Thanks! Montanabw(talk) 22:19, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of Czechoslovakian Small Riding Pony and Czechoslovakian Small Riding Horse[edit]

Hi there! In case you didn't know, you do not need to make separate identical articles using similar terms for the same entity. For instance, I removed the text for Czechoslovakian Small Riding Horse and replaced it with the code: #REDIRECT [[Czechoslovakian Small Riding Pony]]. This way, anyone searching for the pony using the term horse will be directed to the pony article. Happy editing! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 17:42, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New articles[edit]

Thank you for creating new articles. However, I have a couple concerns that must be addressed. First off, I am concerned that you may be copying from the Hendricks book too directly, which is a copyright violation. I'm not accusing you of copying, but a couple of the articles have that tone. You also do not have a proper full cite to the book, see WP:CITE for how to do this (basically, your cite lacks publisher, copyright date and ISBN number). Once you get the full citation, it's easy to copy and paste from one article to the next, just changing the page number. However, and I cannot emphasize this enough, please try to look for at least one other REPUTABLE source on the breed, such as the Kentucky Horse Park site, or University of Oklahoma. That way, you can combine material from different sources and put it into your own words.

Second Hendricks really scrapes the bottom of the barrel on her hunt for "breeds," and some may fail to meet the WP:NOTABILITY standard. (For example, I had Moyle Horse deleted. All there is published out there is exactly one sentence on them at the Ok State site, way too little data for an article)

My third concern is the horse/pony question. First off, please do not reclassify breeds already on the list from horse to pony without providing new research citations for the move. Being under 14.2 is not enough reason by itself (see the pony article for a further explanation) If a breed registry wishes to call the breed a horse, then wikipedia needs to follow that precedent. Many breeds under 14.2 are classified as horses due to a horse phenotype, as the small size is apt to be as much due to malnutrition as genetics. (The 14.2 cutoff rule is primarily applicable to the Hunter/Jumper world) If sources differ, go with the registry, and if there is no registry, then to whatever term is used by any governmental or official agency.

I hope this helps you with your article-writing, your enthusiasm is appreciated. Montanabw(talk) 04:36, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
