Can you explain this Short Hills change?

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Short_Hills,_New_Jersey&diff=next&oldid=1115437792 I've looked over and over and the reference for Census2010 was removed correctly by the script because it wasn't used anywhere else, as you can see, the CensusArea reference definition (which is used elsewhere), was properly moved elsewhere on the page by the script ... DemocraticLuntz (talk) 19:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That page uses {{USCensusDemographics}}, which depends on a reference named "Census2010" being present. You made this edit, which removed that definition and left part of the article unreferenced and added it to Category:Pages with broken reference names. -- Mikeblas (talk) 19:45, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look, if you haven't already, at the edits being made en masse by User:Costco nostra to county pages across the United States, revising county demographic information. There is nothing in the supporting reference related to the percentages that the user is adding, and the user already made a systematic error by inserting the wrong state on dozens of pages. Seems to fall in the same category as the population updates. Thanks. Keystone18 (talk) 17:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said on my page it's just routine calculations Wikipedia:No original research#Routine calculations. Routine calculations do not count as original research, provided there is consensus among editors that the result of the calculation is correct
This is pretty routine math. If you want to double check that's fine by me.
the user already made a systematic error by inserting the wrong state on dozens of pages
Which I then fixed. I was just copy pasting the template and forgot to update the state, so I went back and fixed it. Costco nostra (talk) 17:26, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Noticeboard

[edit]

I have initiated a discussion on how (or even whether) county demographic percentage revisions by ethnicity should be made on Administrators'_noticeboard#Mass_changes_being_made_to_thousands_of_U.S._county_pages Keystone18 (talk) 18:20, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean whether they should be made? US Census data is already on literally every US county page and has been for the last 20 years. The problem is so much of the data is now 10, and in some cases, even 20 years out-of-date. Costco nostra (talk) 22:47, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Costco nostra: my talk page isn't the right place for you to make comments about this issue. Please respond the noticeboard. -- Mikeblas (talk) 23:10, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
