Welcome!

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I was delighted to see that you expanded the article I began on International Voluntary Services. Do you have access to the IVS archives at Goshen? If so, then I encourage you to continue working on the article and, if possible, to add some free-use images. Cheers! -- Cuppysfriend (talk) 16:18, 21 October 2011 (UTC) (Who is located in Auburn.)[reply]

Dear Cuppysfriend, I got most of my information from the archives. I was fascinated by the story of IVS and found the history of their involvement in Vietnam especially interesting. Were you involved with the program? If not, what sparked your interest in the organization? When I get a chance, I want to add some pictures from the archives to the pages I've been working on, but who knows when that will be. MrsSimons (talk) 18:09, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I spoke with the archivist and found out that IVS applications were not retained. If the archives has a letter from him (many reports from the field came in the form of letters), his signature might be available. But that would take a lot of digging and a lot of time to find.... [edit]

When you edited the The Pax Program article, you added a link to Congo, which is a disambiguation page rather than an article. If you know from the source material whether it's referring to the Republic of the Congo or the Democratic Republic of the Congo, could you please edit your link to point to the appropriate page? Most common usage referring to the country simply as "Congo" is about Republic of the Congo, not the DRC, but I didn't want to assume that in this case since you're probably more familiar with the topic. Thanks! LarryJeff (talk) 15:08, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks LarryJeff, the source I was using only said Congo, and I didn't even think about the distinction. I changed it to the DRC, since the river mentioned is located there, as well as the town of Stanleyville, which the source mentioned. However, I'm not entirely sure.MrsSimons (talk) 15:26, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Given the location of the river and the town, I'm sure you got it right. I did tweak your edit slightly (add "of the" in the middle of the name) to fix the red link. Also, I un-linked the year based on WP:OVERLINK and WP:YEARLINK. LarryJeff (talk) 20:18, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Terrific! Thanks much for improving the page!

Hi. When you recently edited Prairie Street Mennonite Church, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Urban (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Proposed deletion of George Jay Lapp

[edit]

The article George Jay Lapp has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I've searched on High Beam and Google Books and the subject appears to be non-notable and even though he published some writings [1] he does not meet the requirements of WP:AUTHOR.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. KeithbobTalk 19:44, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Keithbob. I have removed your proposed deletion notice because George Jay Lapp was an important person in American and Indian Mennonite history. The Mennonites are a relatively small religious denomination. It does not surprise me that you could not find works by Lapp in Google Books because Mennonite works tend to be held by small Mennonite organizations rather than major research libraries that participate in mass digitization projects. I have added some citations to his works and mentioned other roles he played in the old Mennonite Church. I hope that these changes improve the article sufficiently. Thank you -- MrsSimons

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mennonite Church USA Archives, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Emma Richards. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
