Caution about WP:PROMOTION

[edit]

Hi NASH Obesity. I note that some of your edits, such as this one and this have been adding content to the effect that samples are available to researchers. This could be construed as WP:PROMOTION, which as that link explains, is by policy not allowed anywhere in WIkipedia articles. Please edit these and any other similar edits to remove the offending text. Also, since you intend to contribute to medicine-related topics, you should read WP:MEDRS very carefully to understand the level of sourcing required: normally secondary review-type articles. Hi Michael,
I re-phrased the two citations which you referred to as "promotional". Please check whether the wording now is ok. Then I will re-phrase the others accordingly.

Thanks Lars. I've made further minor tweaks to those two articles: a) to use the WP:Citation expander to turn journal DOI into full citations (you'll find that gadget very useful); b) to wikilink the Structural Genomics Consortium (which helps convince me the weblink is not spam); c) to replace "Recently" with the publication date: that's more encyclopaedic as it will be true many years from now; d) to remove boldface from compound identifiers as that's more in line with our manual of style. I hope you'll continue to contribute with your expertise (you may like to read WP:EXPERT) and if you have additional questions, just WP:PING me here and I'll try to assist. Here's the deal

[edit]

Here are suggested readings: WP:SECONDARY and WP:COI. The gist of these guidelines are:

  • Wikipedia prefers citations to reviews and books, not primary journal references (tens of thousands appear annually). Citing secondary sources is the encyclopedic style.
  • Do not cite yourself or your colleagues. It's called conflict of interest. Many new editors cite themselves mainly. That behavior is unacceptable and tacky.

If you have questions, many editors can offer advice. Happy editing. --Smokefoot (talk) 13:31, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
