Your proposed article interests
Hi, NSully83. Could you please move your article ideas to your user page? You might look at Trevor's user page as an example. Thanks! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 04:55, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- I like this field of youth and religion as a source of potential topics. Let's be in conversation about where you might go in your work! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 04:56, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Suggestions
NSully83,
Good start! I think you'll definitely find a place for your article in Wikipedia. If you are wanting to do more research on Youth, Religion, and Senegal you could find a place to incorporate it into the 'religion' section of the Senegal page. Something to keep in mind: think about the ways culture in Senegal interacts with youth and religion. I'm sure this is something you're much more aware of than I. If you can target things about the country's culture that are unique, you can frame your edits around it to make Senegal stand out. Keep on working! It looks good!

First thoughts on youth in Senegal proposal
Hi NSully83! I am glad that you are extending on something that you're excited about. I wonder if you would consider creating a Youth in Senegal article or considering how the article existing in Y'en a Marre fits into your work? I look forward what articles you can find on contemporary youth issues (post-2000). Let's keep working on focus and specific article. The theme is a good choice for you!Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 22:05, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Very clear proposal!
Hi NSully83 - You have a very clear topic for your research. I like how it combines your interest in Senegal and a Youth studies approach to religion. Since Abbey made the suggestion to put your additions into the religion section of Senegal, this is a thought. However, that doesn't seem to be the place to make the strongest contribution. How do you feel about translating the religion in Senegal article from French Wikipedia and expanding it to add a "generational differences" or "youth" section? There is a Portal:Senegal where you might search for ideas. I wonder if User:Gobonobo would have insight?
Your references look more relevant to your previous paper. I look forward to seeing some results from new literature review searches as we proceed this semester. I am pleased that your research will deepen your expertise in something you are interested in!
Finally, please check to see you’ve done the to-do items on my September 26 post on our course talk page.

Topic feedback
Hi NSully83,
If I understand correctly, your proposed topic is the religiosity of Senegalese youth, with an emphasis on the Mouride Brotherhood. This sounds like a great topic for a research paper, but I think will be challenging to address in a Wikipedia article.
As a stand-alone topic, the religiosity of Senegalese youth might be too specific for its own article. However, I could easily see the topic being part of a more broadly-scoped article, such as Religion in Senegal or Youth in Senegal. I'd advise against making your contributions fit into the main Senegal article though. As a Wikipedia article type, country articles tend have a streamlined layout and predictable sections. Senegal is also one of Wikipedia's more highly viewed pages, with usually over 2000 views on any day. As such, any changes made will be more highly scrutinized and less likely to stick.
Sometimes when sections in a primary article become too large, we split them off to their own articles. For instance, the religion section in the Senegal article is fairly long. We could basically cut and paste that section to a new Religion in Senegal article (supplemented with a translation of the French article if you'd like). I think a new article such as that or Youth in Senegal would be a good place to address your topic. Gobōnobō + c 22:59, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Feedback
Hi NSully83,
I agree with both Prof. Vandegridt and Gobonobo in regards to creating a new article rather than making editions to the existing Senegal page. I think Gobonobo's idea of Religion in Senegal would work best since you have such an interest in Senegal and can share your knowledge on that front, as well as adding new information that youth specific. Perhaps expanding past a specific focus on the Mouride Brotherhood would be beneficial for creating a new article as well, though certainly I look forwarding to you sharing the bulk of your already existing knowledge not only on the brotherhood but on Senegal as well. Your topic sounds very interesting and I look forwarding to seeing what you are able to come up with.

Topic Feedback
NSully83,
Wow, looks like you've got a lot of knowledge about Senegal! I'm also impressed by the volume of the resources you've been able to find. Word of caution, though. Be careful about using the word 'analyze' when you're discussing your goals for the article. Remember: this is encyclopedic writing, there should be no original research. I'll also remind you that if you're making a new article you'll want to link it to other pages in WP. It'll be infinitely more difficult for others to find this information unless they are looking specifically for the topic. Anyway, I think it looks really great and I can't wait to see where your project ends up!
