Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Namecoin", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. I dream of horses @ 02:06, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I dream of horses,
Thank your for mentioning wikipedia user policy. By careful reading, i didn't notice a clear hint which could collide with the policy. I am a Namecoin expert, and you know maybe that this is a term, which could not be trademarked. So it doesn't reflect a registered company, group, organization, product and especially no website because the username doesn't contain any ICANN top level domain information like .com. Also i want to mention that you are inviting me to use for example "Mark at WidgetsUSA" or "WidgetFan87" which would have a relation to "MyWidgetsUSA.com". I assume "MyWidgetsUSA1" would be a valid username in this case. With my example this would mean i could use "Nameco1n" or "Namcoin" as a username. By underlining, that the term "Namecoin" can not be trademarked similar to "dream" or "horse" or "internet" (a very big group), which also reflect terms, which could not be trademarked, valid usernames and could also reflect a "group" or "company", would it be possible to keep this username "Namecoin" ?
Thank your for your reply. Namecoin (talk) 02:56, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. I use this message if I'm not sure if the username is blockable. Good to know that it isn't! I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 03:45, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome, i am here to improve some articles. Thank you for your fast reply. Namecoin (talk) 03:59, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"So it doesn't reflect a registered company, group, organization, product and especially no website because the username doesn't contain any ICANN top level domain information like .com."
This is bullshit, Namecoin is a software project and the name is used by a registered organization (Namecoin w/ DBA Namecoin USA, Namecoin, Namecoin Foundation) which the developers control. It's also used in at least two ICANN domain which represent the project: namecoin.org and namecoin.info. The only reason to grab use account name is to present a false connection or authority to the project. For those reasons, this user is in clear violation of the username policy.
I would also suggest that the admins check the IP logins for the account as it may very well be a puppet account. Indolering (talk) 19:17, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Namecoin, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

That's fine. But:

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 14:30, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:Daniel Case,
Yes, i understand this. My username was already checked by Wikipedia personally. So is it possible to execute the username change, please ? Thank you very much.
Well, as I think I asked you in email, what sort of articles would you be editing if unblocked, considering you can't edit the Namecoin one? Daniel Case (talk) 19:09, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Daniel, it's maybe a good idea to edit other articles as you say. I don't know at the moment but i would be interested to have a look at other open source articles, which are not relying to much on primary sources. Thank you.
