If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nanogune, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Ruby Murray 14:22, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

First, I apologize for the delay in my response but I have just learned that the publication was deleted. I also apologize if the article provided seemed promotional. This was not my intention, but to provide truthful information about a Nonprofit Scientific Research Center: nanoGUNE. Part of the information was taken from its Activity Reports, and it is possible that some paragraphs were written in a non very neutral style.

However, from what I have now been reading, it seems that one main problem has been that the username was the name of the Association. As I work in the center and this was my first contribution to Wikipedia, I thought that using the "nanoGUNE" username would be more transparent. I was obviously wrong. My fault was not to read the Username policy, where it clearly states that this is not permitted. I hope you to understand that the intention was to be sincere with the readers, showing that the contribution was written by an insider.

Moreover, from what I have now read, this could also be understood as a case of conflict of interest and I will be pleased to desist from writing about the center were I work if this is a requirement in order to unblock my account. I know that this is not an excuse but there are a lot of information pages about how to start contributing to Wikipedia and It was very difficult for me to read them all and to be aware of all the policies. What's more, I recognize that I was probably more worried about the technical issues, as well as about requesting free licenses for scientific figures and videos for future contributions, than about the username and the text of this first article.

My objective by becoming a wikipedian is not to make promotion of the center, but to contribute to the scientific content of wikipedia. My concern is to bring science to the public domain with both technical and more accessible content, as neutral and objective as science usually is. My intention was to publish a first article about the research center with as much information as possible. Other researchers from nanoGUNE and other institutions asked to me several times to prepare an article about nanoGUNE for Wikipedia, and, as I very usually search for information on other research centers in Wikipedia, I thought this would be useful too.

After this first article, I wanted to continue writing some contributions and sharing free license images and videos in other existing articles related to materials and nano sciences, such us graphene, Transmission_electron_microscopy, Scanning tunneling microscopy, Near-field scanning optical microscopy, and other interesting articles related to my area of expertise. I also have a personal interest in creating content in Basque language, and planned to translate some wikipedia articles to my mother tongue.

Because of all these reasons, I am terribly sorry about this mistake and the damage this could cause to the site. I was planning my contributions since very long time, and this has been very disappointing. I perfectly understand that making promotion is absolutely inappropriate for Wikipedia, and I assure that I will pay much more attention to the Wikipedia policies in the future in order to avoid any problem.

I hope my explanations will be taken into account and I would really appreciate you to consider unblocking my account under a different username. If my request is accepted, I commit myself to make useful contributions to Wikipedia, as this was my main objective.

Accept reason:

I fully sympathise with you. In my opinion Wikipedia would be improved if we were to cut all the policies and guidelines down to about 10% of their current extent. For a new editor, it can be bewildering, puzzling, and intimidating. I hope you have a better time here from now on. I am unblocking you to allow a username change to your requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. I am also giving you (below) a message which includes links to various policies, guidelines, etc, which may be helpful. Don't try to read and digest all of them before you do any more editing, as there is far too much there, but do look at any of them which seem to be relevant to your current needs, and come back to look at others if and when they become relevant.
