Conversion template

[edit]

Thanks for your efforts to offer conversions between units. I'd like to draw your attention to the {{convert}} template and its instructions. If you are going to the trouble to make these edits it would be easier (and much better) to use the template. The template cuts down on your work, makes sure the calculation is accurate, and keeps the conversion in a standard format. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:50, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So for example {{convert|12|km|mi|abbr=on}} results in "12 km (7.5 mi)" instead of "12 km (7 mi)" which you had entered. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:57, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the above re: the convert template

[edit]

@NauticalMiles: Before you make any more changes please read the above about the convert template. It is not appropriate or necessary to manually calculate and enter these values. —DIYeditor (talk) 01:42, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NauticalMiles. I'm here in response to the report filed at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding your recent attempts to convert unit measurements on articles. First of all, I want to thank you for your attempts to contribute and improve the encyclopedia - it's very much appreciated and we encourage more of it! We were all new here once, and I want to assure you that you're not in any trouble and that we expect new editors to make mistakes and need help as they become familiar and proficient with Wikipedia. However, you'll want to read the message that DIYeditor wrote to you above - it's important that you understand and follow his input. Not only will using this template save you time and be much more productive to the articles you add this to, but it'll use the correct formulas and output to perform the proper unit conversions and make sure that no errors are introduced. Please start using this template moving forward; it's been noted in the report that your attempts to manually convert these units have introduced errors and this will be seen as disruptive if these manual conversions continue. If you have questions regarding how to use this template, please do not hesitate to message me on my talk page. I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:44, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
