Thanks, you saved, but also delivered me a lot of work. I need time or should ask help to check the translations.
- You could ask for help from people in Category:Proofreaders nl-en and Category:Translators nl-en. In the meantime, it's the bits with ??? by them that are the main points that I'm not sure about re my translation, so those are a priority for help. Neddyseagoon - talk 08:51, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
I saw the picture you want of Catharina Hooft, but could not borrow the book. I will look around.Taksen 23:07, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Many thanks - it's not on the web anywhere, hence my request. Neddyseagoon - talk 08:51, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for all the work. It would be nice to have a meal somewhere, some time. May be these three people are interesting to translate.
- nl:Jan J. Hinlopen - en:Jan Jacobszoon Hinlopen
- nl:Cornelis Rudolphus Theodorus Krayenhoff - Cornelis Rudolphus Theodorus Krayenhoff

- I've done a basic translation of all these 3, but they all need a lot of proofreading and rewriting for the sense of the Dutch, and for English grammar, and the addition of images, formatting etc. After those are done, could I have a break from them? I'll be a bit busy. (I mean, if you could keep a note of any that could be translated, but not put them on my talk page, until I say I'm free again?)Neddyseagoon - talk 14:58, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
hello Neddy, np, you always say you have no time, and then i see you translating a new one. anyhow good job on Jan J. Hinlopen. i did not expect you were able to translate these difficult sentences. please take your time, because you are working very hard to improve the knowledge on the history of the netherlands. i'll try the people on the page you suggested for proofreading. besseldekker is very good, i hope he will check and work on the ones you did. thx. A bit of advice as I see you are involved with translation.
- I see the picture on Samuel Iperusz Wiselius is not in Wikimedia Commons .... is it better if it is.. or does it not really matter? ... just curious
- Well, I jumped it across from the Dutch wikipedia, and should probably have jumped it across to Wikimedia not Wikipedia, but I don't think it matters unduly. Neddyseagoon - talk 09:01, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- The article Samuel Iperusz Wiselius is still obviously still in translation (last time I looked). Is it OK to improve the English ... even though you who have access to both versions and can maybe therefore do a sharper job - as I have guessed the wrong meaning? Victuallers 08:58, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Certainly, though if you can find someone with better Dutch than mine to double check it against the Dutch original page, that would be even bette. Neddyseagoon - talk 09:01, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Looking good! Victuallers 10:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- ...that two Dutch professors who lost an article belonging to Samuel Iperusz Wiselius were to join him in forming the Batavian Republic in the Netherlands? by User:Neddyseagoon nom by Victuallers 10:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- (alt) ...that Samuel Iperusz Wiselius, who had assisted with the establishment of the Netherlands as a Batavian republic, played host to an exiled King?
- Please modify if inaccurate or you can think of a better hook Victuallers 10:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- See my edits to the above Neddyseagoon - talk 13:39, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Still OK? Victuallers 14:36, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- With those edits, either/both of those are fine by me. Neddyseagoon - talk 14:15, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry for butting in on this, but I'd like to go over the text once again, if you don't mind. Should there be any objections, please revert my alterations. Regards, Bessel Dekker 15:47, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit]As you can see in the Dutch Wikipedia most of the article is mine. My name there is Taks or T. Tichelaar. User:Neddyseagoon translated my work after I asked him to do so, see the discussion on his page.
Therefore I would like to have an award also.
I knew something like this one day would happen, because there is nowhere written in the English version that it was copied and translated from the Dutch Wikipedia or it will disappear after a while.
I think I have to have the possibility to add a sjablon, that it is a exact translation of my work. Neddy did not add anything. Besides it was all translated with a machine. Usually I check what he did, but he is working so fast I have not had to possiblity to check.
- I never claimed that I did - all I 'added' was to translate it, which is some little work in itself, though not of course as much as writing the article from scratch. There isn't really a tag or "sjablon" for demonstrating this (even articles translated through Wikipedia:Translation, once complete, have no such tag), but the references being all in Dutch and the only 'other language' interwikied version being the Dutch page might be sizeable clues that this was its origin. To avoid confusion, though, if I create any in the future I'll include "This page is a translation of nl:......" or something like that, in the creation edit summary. That ok? Neddyseagoon - talk 08:40, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Besides he does not warn me, that the article is awarded, maybe he is a rat.
- Well, I'm sorry, I thought you were watching the article and would have seen the award being made yourself. My apologies, and see the copy of it on your user page. (And please, let's be civil and not go around calling each other rats!)Neddyseagoon - talk 08:43, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Please pay attention when someone is copying completely, including the Dutch references. Taksen 00:23, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
The article has not been checked by me. I don't believe the translation is reliable. I will ask User:BesselDekker to check. He is a much better translater. Taksen 00:38, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- I never claimed otherwise. I produce raw translations quickly, for the more experienced like you and him to proofread. Neddyseagoon - talk 08:40, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I assume your will be more careful next time, and I am sorry I scared you. It is nice to cooperate on a lemma, even if you are not very talkative. The DYK's have little use, because they are only on for six hours, I will not check four times a day, but I am proud and this is a new experience. Taksen 10:03, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, we can't all be as talkative as you! :-) Glad we've got that sorted. As I said, I'm better at putting up a raw page and then letting others like you, BesselDekker, Johnbot etc play with it, then moving onto the next raw one, than lots of edits as you do. But from now on, I'll notify you of new "raw translations" by me here.Neddyseagoon - talk 10:39, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Hereby a message from the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Wiselius. Dear Mr. Tichelaar, I’m very grateful for your note and the link to Wikipedia. Very interesting. So far as I know no one is working directly on Weenix but I will keep your article on file in case I come across further info. With many thanks, Walter Liedtke Taksen 11:01, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Since my name has been mentioned a couple of times, I feel justified in butting in briefly to clear up misunderstandings.
- While I have in the past corrected errors and set patent misunderstandings of a Dutch original right, I regard this neither as my task nor as my duty.
- When an editor decides to write an article, I am sure he is determined to write it well, and to be aware of his own limitations, as no doubt we all agree. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well, in this case for the benefit of our readers.
- So I'd rather not engage in "mopping-up operations" — which is not to say that, if asked to give a specific opinion on phrasing or on a particularly difficult (Dutch-language?) passage, I will as a rule be very glad to do so. Best regards, Bessel Dekker 16:50, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
See comments on start/B on the talk page. Good luck Arnoutf 17:54, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Hello Neddy, please don't get upset, I will keep you informed. I asked Bessel to do a translation, but he is very busy on the moment with another project and so am I. Then I proposed to Bessel and ask you to do the rough translation, then I will checked and Bessel will improve it. Is that okay? Taksen 22:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC) Neddyseagoon - talk 09:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
As you did not make clear you are having time to translate, I asked him first. Taksen 20:34, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds a good setup to me! The time I get to do translations is a bit erratic, so please don't be surprised if it takes a little while to get one started / I suddenly start translating after a long period of not doing any.Neddyseagoon - talk 09:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
(I wish I had an emailadress so our conservations would be more behind the screens).Taksen 20:34, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Or should I give up working in the English Wikipedia, it would be a pity. It is so much more rewarding in three weeks than the Dutch Wikipedia has ever been for me in the past three years. A private teacher would be nice also. Taksen 20:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Not at all - you're doing great work! Neddyseagoon - talk 09:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
If the English Wikipedia accepts Dutch references they should also accept Dutch talk by users. Am I right? Taksen 22:02, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Different cases, I would say. It accepts foreign language references if there are no English ones, as a referenced article is better than an unreferenced one - but talk pages are for all Wikipedians to communicate, therefore there has to be a lingua franca, which here - since it is the English Wikipedia - has to be English, for better or worse. (Not just my opinion - see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines, where there's also advice on getting talk entries translated by Wikipedia:Embassy.) Neddyseagoon - talk 09:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Neddyseagoon, your point about language use is quite valid. See my reply on my user page. Bessel Dekker 11:48, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Goodmorning Neddy, I have a problem with the picture of The visit to the nursery, which has been uploaded by me four months ago. About a month ago I asked for a copy in NY, for our museum. I signed an agreement last week not to use a copy somewhere else then in the library of the museum. The file will be sent to the museum within a few weeks. I have to ask for permission to the curator of MMA again if I would like to use the picture somewhere else.Taksen
Half a year ago, I promised the same to the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, but they allowed us to use the picture in a brochure once. This is the reason why I did not upload a copy of the painting The family Hinlopen in the article. Do you understand what I want to explain?Taksen
Before I will show this article to both the curators to tell them what I have discovered, and to explain what is the controversy about, I prefer to show them the article without these two paintings. Or would there be no problem if they were already in it, because of age and in the public domain?Taksen
In that email I might when necessary ask permission to use the pictures in the article on Wikipedia as an illustration. Or can you think of ask around for another solution? Taksen 06:51, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- I would have thought the age would make it ok. Here is a copy without the nursery image, so as we can keep the original as it is. Neddyseagoon - talk 13:56, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello Arnout, you did not recognize the article on Gerrit Paape has been translated extremely well. It should be more than stub-class. If you call this stub I dont have much confidence in your opinion. Taksen 17:37, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

hello neddy, how did you find Cornelis de Graeff was crippled? If it is not written somewhere, it is a good observation, and you are talented. Taksen 13:19, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- No, not really! - it was in the label for that painting at the National Gallery "Dutch Portraits" exhibition (and is probably in the catalogue for it too). Neddyseagoon - talk 09:26, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Hello neddy. Did you write the page on Admiral van Ghent? Could you tell me where you got the story about the 18c owner of the chalice destroying it when faced with a gold tax? Thanks. C94.30.47.170 (talk) 21:21, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Museum Roumjantsev
[edit]Goodmorning Neddy, Yesterday I translated the article Museum Roumjantsev from the German Wikipedia. I tried to change its name to Rumyantsev Museum and then I found out the name is already in use. What would be the best? To integrate these two, or change the redirect from Russian State Library to my article? Taksen 09:13, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Charles-François Delacroix
[edit]Hello Neddy, could you take a look at this lemma Charles-François Delacroix, improve my english and add some categories? Taksen 10:42, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Nicolas Brazier
[edit]Hello. You are doing a great job with many translations. But I noticed, reading an article about Nicolas Brazier, obviously translated from the French Wikipedia, that you didn't mention the translated source. I think you should do so (it's quite easy with the Translation/Ref template), not only for the sake of verifiability but also to comply with the provisions of the GFDL. Regards --Gliese581 (talk) 18:12, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
More translations?
[edit]Hello Neddy, are you in for a few more translations, concerning merchants in the Dutch East India Company?
Taksen (talk) 09:32, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello Neddy, thanks again, here is another lemma some people might like to read.
- nl:Cornelis Matelieff de Jonge - already exists, Cornelis Matelieff de Jonge
Take your time. Don't forget to take a look on the portuguese lemma on him. It is small but has some internal links you can use. Bye,Taksen (talk) 08:47, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello Neddy, long time no hear, I have a request? Do you want to translate
Taksen (talk) 12:22, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Hello Neddyseagoon. How about a translation of nl:Jeronimo Clifford, whose relatives lived in Kent? Probably you are able to destillate a few more details from the website British History Online. There is a lot of international attention for J. Clifford, but nobody seems to have bothered uptill now. Can you let me know if you are interested or not? Taksen (talk) 09:04, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Hello, Neddy, i'm happy to see you online again. I was worried. Taksen (talk) 19:08, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Jacques Adam
[edit]Hi Neddy, I've read the page you've created about Jacques Adam. You wrote he was a clergyman, but as a descendant of him (something like 11 generations !), I am quite sure it may not be the appropriate word :-) He did went to the Oratory but he was not a priest (clergyman seems to mean that, doesn't it ?). I will correct my-self the Wikipedia FR page, but my skills in English are so low that I'd rather let you make the correction on the Wikipedia EN . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.169.39.228 (talk) 03:00, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Lodewijk van Alteren
[edit]Hallo Neddyseagoon. Do you think this person is worth to be mentioned in the English Wikipedia? It probably will not attract many readers but the subject is interesting. Extortion and Abuse of Power in the Dutch Republic: The Case of ... Lodewijk van Alteren(1608-1657). He was the son of a politician from Zeeland, and son in law to the Amsterdam burgomaster Anthony Oetgens van Waveren [1]. Could you let me know if you like the subject? I will add and make a Dutch translation. Taksen (talk) 22:31, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Willem Anne Lestevon
[edit]Hello Neddyseagoon. May be nl:Willem Anne Lestevenon is interesting for you to translate. You can also take a look at fr:Willem Anne Lestevenon. The Dutch article is quit long and probably has too much details on Dutch history. You could skip some. The British Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, the Louvre and the MET own drawings from his collection.Taksen (talk) 12:03, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
