Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (Ontarioinvasiveplants) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization or adding links to its website.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. November 2011[edit]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Kudzu, you may be blocked from editing. Calabe1992 15:49, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only you. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. but I don't want to be blocked! :([edit]

I don't understand how not to make it a conflict of interest, I read the FAQ and guidelines, and thought I was following the rules. I just wanted to add external links to some factsheets from the Province of Ontario about invasive plant species biology and what people can do to prevent their spread, and was blocked. Please help?

As the notice says, the reason you were blocked was because of your username. You are welcome to create a new account using a name that does not appear to represent a group or organisation. That said, it is likely that the links you added fall under links to avoid adding to articles. Reply below if you have any other questions. SmartSE (talk) 17:21, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have created a different account with a username that just represents me, I apologize for any confusion, and have updated another invasive plant page with the fact sheet for that species that was created by the Province of Ontario (garlic mustard). I read the external link guidelines, and don't think that I'm violating any of them, but will remove it if I am. Thank you for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayleyanderson (talkcontribs) 18:07, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like a good solution. The automatic tagging of your edits doesn't take into account that the .ca web sites are government sites, and that you aren't engaged in a self-promotion campaign. Sad but true. Nadiatalent (talk) 21:07, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
