Copyrighted images[edit]

Please do not continue to add what are obviously copyrighted images to Wikipedia; these files should never even have been uploaded to Commons. There's a very clear copyright notice in the images. The copyright owner (e.g., Marc Dando for Alopias_vulpinus_FAO.jpg) may have given shark-references.com permission to display the image on their side, but they have NOT released the image under a CC-BY license, as you misleadingly claim in the image description on Commons. And this kind of licensing is required for use on Wikipedia. If I am wrong here, please clarify the situation at the deletion nomination on Commons. Until this is sorted out, please do refrain from trying to add this material to articles. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:19, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit reversion[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 01:19, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning about copyrighted images[edit]

So apparently having every one of your previous uploads at Commons deleted didn't make any impression, and you are just going to round 2 [1][2]? Please consider this a final warning: if you insert further copyrighted images into the encyclopedia, like these images from https://shark-references.com/, I will report you to an administrator and ask to have you blocked from editing. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 03:55, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't copy material you find elsewhere online[edit]

Hello. I am Diannaa and I am a Wikipedia administrator. Please don't upload any more photos that you find on the Internet or elsewhere. Photos that you find online are copyright, and we are not allowed to display them on Wikipedia. You should only upload photos that you have taken yourself. Also, prose you find online is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. The Wikipedia copyright policy and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. There's a simplified version of our copyright rules at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Further copyright issues will result in you being blocked from editing.— Diannaa (talk) 20:47, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

December 2020[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  — Diannaa (talk) 15:20, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked your account, because in spite of warnings, you continued to add copyright material to Wikipedia in violation of our copyright policy. This has been pretty much your sole activity. You cannot resume editing until you provide a statement describing how copyright applies to Wikipedia, show that you understand our copyright policy, and make a commitment to follow it in the future.— Diannaa (talk) 15:24, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
