[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 16:14, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Patrick Geoffrey Knight. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 16:14, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Patrick Geoffrey Knight Since you have a conflict of interest with the Canadian Economic Party, you should not edit the articles about the Canadian Economic Party or articles where the Canadian Economic Party is discussed, such as List of political parties in Ontario. Instead, you may propose changes on the talk page of those articles, i.e. Talk:List of political parties in Ontario. How to make such a request is explained on the Edit requests page. If you want to create a new article about a topic where you have a conflict of interest, I recommend that you use the Articles for Creation process. This allows you to create a draft article outside of the main article space. This is at less risk for deletion, and it allows you to submit it for review by a more experienced, uninvolved editor who will either publish the article or send it back to you for revisions.
However, please be aware that Wikipedia only accepts articles about topics that are considered to be notable, as defined at Wikipedia:Notability:
Wikipedia articles cover notable topics—those that have gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time, and are not outside the scope of Wikipedia. We consider evidence from reliable and independent sources to gauge this attention. The notability guideline does not determine the content of articles, but only whether the topic should have its own article.
There are also more refined notability criteria for organizations, which says:
An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. Trivial or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability. All content must be verifiable. If no independent, third-party, reliable sources can be found on a topic, then Wikipedia should not have an article on it.
I would hate for you to spend a lot of time writing an article that has no hope of being accepted. If your organization has never been covered in-depth by mainstream media, then your efforts will be in vain. I'm sorry if this news is disappointing. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:18, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
