Information icon Hello, I'm Julietdeltalima. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Clarence Gilyard, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. I hope you understand that this requirement is for the protection of article subjects and their families against hoaxes, which are unfortunately all too common. There must be a published source from an organization with a reputation for fact-checking; a press release, or the word of a family member, is not enough. Please address further questions to editors at WP:TEAHOUSE. Thanks. Julietdeltalima (talk) 18:29, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If a press release is not enough then why is everyone assuming, because the press release came out yesterday, that was his date of death? Phein (talk) 18:41, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We can't assume whether they're going on inference (which by the sounds of it is what has happened here) or went and confirmed the detail for themselves through a rep or family. E! News and People Magazine are making the assertions of his dying on Monday, which is what I was basing my edits around. I've removed the specific day from his page for now. We need to be able to use a published source/obituary notice that has the exact day noted in order to put in the 23rd, this is the primary reason you have been reverted. Clarence Gilyard

If you really are a family member please provide a death certificate or an official obituary at legacy.com or somewhere. DrKilleMoff (talk) 19:02, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is not good advice. Wikipedia needs a published source known for fact-checking. Hasn't Variety or The Hollywood Reporter or The New York Times reported on this? Those would be appropriate sources: they are periodicials with reputations for fact-checking. User:DrKilleMoff and User:Phein, I kindly recommend reviewing WP:RS in this light. I sense a great deal of frustration on the part of User:Phein, but, again, with a relatively prominent popular-culture figure, we cannot assume anyone who claims to be a family member actually is. This is for the protection of Mr. Gilyard's memory, among other considerations. Thank you. - Julietdeltalima (talk) 19:09, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Legacy has been used before as a source ans is compleyley legitimate as well as death certificates. DrKilleMoff (talk) 19:55, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Legacy by itself is more of an obituary aggregation website, it's reliable when it is uploading an obituary from a funeral home. Rusted AutoParts 21:10, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
