Requested username:

Request reason:

The reason I would like to change my username is that I want to prove that I am not interested in using wikipedia for any spam or promotion of Phoebus Software. All I want to do is to highlight credible information about this firm. I apologise for my ignorance on your rules, but I was following the wikipedia article about Target Group in the UK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Group), and it has factual information that you have allowed on the site. I am new at this, and I admit that I have a mistake that I did not fully understand. I want to be part of this community and I would welcome any edits that you are willing to make to give my article on Phoebus Software a page on Wikipedia. I therefore ask you to please reconsider banning me from adding and editing articles as I am willing to remove any information you deem to be promotional about Phoebus Software. I just want my first article on this company to be factual and provide relevance and credibility just like the Target Grouop's Wikipedia profile. Kind Regards, Jonathan

Request reason:

I apologise for indavertently violating Wikipedia's rules. I would like to acknowledge that my articel, being the first was made in poor taste, and that I should have left out all promtional content with regards to products and services associated with Phoebus Software. I promise not to do it again, and I would like to request if I amy just add the factual information on Phoebus Software. I was just trying to follow the Target Group's profile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Group) as a benchmark. I want to make meaningful contributions to the Wikipedia website and I would be extremely grateful, if you could allow me to edit the article and make it as factual and unbiased as possible. I thank you for your time in reviewing my article and providing feedback. Kind Regards, Jonathan

Decline reason:

You're not going to be unblocked so that you can write about a company you appear to have a conflict of interest with - Wikipedia isn't a directory of companies, and your draft was basically advertising. Please see WP:COI. If you'd like to work on articles on unrelated topics, please lodge another unblock request which explains what these are. You will also need to change your user name to something which represents only you. I hope that this information is helpful. Nick-D (talk) 08:43, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

June 2012[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Favonian (talk) 20:30, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't helpful, I apologize StringdaBrokeda (talk) 10:05, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your response and feedback. I understand that you are unwilling to unblock my account as my first article was subjective and therefore a violation of Wikipedia’s rules. I understand that Wikipedia is not a directory of companies and I would like to change my username to something that represents me.

I would like to appeal your decision to indefinitely blocking my account by promising that I will not create anymore articles that serve to violate Wikipedia’s rules.I would also like to appeal that I change my username from Phoebus Software to something that represents only me.

I would like to work on articles that focus on current significant news within the UK financial industry such as the recent profits slump by Dudley Building Society, and the takeover of Tieto UK by Sopra. These articles have been widely publicised but are not yet on any Wikipedia articles concerning Dudley Building Society and Sopra.

I would like to adhere to Wikipedia’s five pillars, especially adopting a Neutral Point of View. I would also officially like to declare an official Conflict of Interest concerning Phoebus Software.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for getting back to me. I apologize again for breaking Wikipedia's rules, especially those concerning neutrality and I would like to be given another chance to make useful contributions to the Wikipedia Community by requesting a username that represents only me. I promise not to write anymore subjective articles and to follow Wikipedia's Five Pillars as a reference every time I wish to make a contribution. Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. Yunshui  13:59, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but your requested username is already taken although you may make a usurpation request if you get unblocked. It seems like if you have learned from the block and I would support an sysop giving a {{2nd chance}}. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 01:27, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
