European Young Chemists' Network

[edit]

I have removed all external links you introduced in the article European Young Chemists' Network. Article text should only link to artikles in English Wikipedia. I have also removed all of the machine translation you published on Norwegian WP, please see your Norwegian user talk page w:no:Brukerdiskusjon:DimitraP. I noticed that you are editing 17 projects 1 and I hope you will take a look at the external links in the other languages. The article European Young Chemists' Network has at present one source that is not the organisasation. It would be much appreciated if you found time to find reliable independent sources for the article. The article needs more sources and rewriting to loose the home page language and become more of a factual encyclopeadia article. Hoping you will rise to the challenge. Thanks for your attention --regards Dyveldi ☯ prat ✉ post 19:58, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

FYI. i find the massive import of articles in all language editions not "elegant" but in the end you did your best. Please since you made this effort, could you also upload an image of the current conference or the board of director on Wikimedia Commons? Thank you! I am glad to guide you.--Alexmar983 (talk) 01:06, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
To keep things centralized, I suggest you to copy your argument from my talk page to Talk:European Chemical Society (EuChemS). I would also like you to read the Wikipedia:Notability (organizations) policy and think whether it is met here. I'll also ping User:Dyveldi, since the merge could use more comments and it is a very niche topic not many ppl will stumble upon soon. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:05, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You can upload a mew image on Commons and change it in the page here. First of all, to upload an image go to Wikimedia Commons (the file archive) use this tool and follow the instruction. If the image is created by you and it's nowhere on line, it's simple. If there is an image already on line you want to reuse, you have two other options (let me know if this is the case). Bye!--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:06, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The image will be taken from the EYCN website, so I will need your help for the next steps. Thanks! --DimitraP (talk)
Can you write under the image, or in the same page, or at the bottom of the image (that can be cropped) a copyright tag? if so just add "CC BY SA 4.0 Name Author 2019" and I can upload it myself. it's just easier than sending a formal mail.--Alexmar983 (talk) 18:49, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can do this. Should I replace the "Name Author" by anything like "EYCN" or I just leave it like this? When I prepare the picture, how can I send it to you? Thanks a lot for the support!--DimitraP 09:51, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You can put EYCN as author or copyright owner, it's fine. Just show me the link when the copyright is declared associated to that specific image and I can upload such image. It might not be at the top resolution but we can upload a better image later. just in case some license reviewers has any doubt, lt's start with the easiest step.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:50, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The link where you can find this picture with the copyright is https://www.euchems.eu/divisions/european-young-chemists-network/board/. Could you also tell me your opinion about the updated version of the page in English (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Young_Chemists%27_Network)? Is the notability of the page now met?--DimitraP 07:04, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ok, let me check a second time just in case with another user and I will upload it. About European Young Chemists' Network, I am very busy before May, 9th but I can take a look there. I would not insist too much if I were you, sometimes these templates just need few third-party sources to be removed and it would be non sense to merge, it will back as an separate article in few years. It's not complicated to address the template, can you wait few weeks? I don't know why but a lot of newbies all decided to contact me right in these weeks for these topics, and you don't want someone with not enough time to handle a notability discussion. Better be prepared.--Alexmar983 (talk) 18:29, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Since I have your support I could indeed wait. I didn't really get your point about removing third-party sources but you will explain to me later when you will be more available. Thanks!--DimitraP 07:47, 01 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
removing the templates, the template in order to be removed needs some few third-party sources to be added. I am taking care of the image of the Board right now. I will send you an update as soon as possible.--Alexmar983 (talk) 16:56, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Any additional hint for this? 08:24, 27 May 2020 (UTC) DimitraP
20-05-01 EYCN board

As soon as the license is reviewed, I improve the description and the categorization. I might try to crop some faces to insert them in the Wikidata items of the researchers (you can also change the license under the single portraits, but to organize categories a cropped image for me is sufficient). You'll see.--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:05, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

image reviewed. Any chance to get the copyright tag under the single images as well?--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:28, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have to discuss about this. Will they be separately uploaded on wikipedia commons? Why is this necessary? I want to know so that I can further explain them. Thanks!--DimitraP 16:18, 02 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I like to put images in the Wikidata items that I have just created or improved (example d:Q81233977). Later, they can be used in future Wikipedia articles. We like to cover all the aspect of a topic, it's nice to have in 20 years an image of a scientist or a politicians when (s)he was younger. In any case, not strictly necessary.--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I just made a "joke" about that.--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:35, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, regarding the upload of individual pictures on wikipedia items, I understand your point, but I am sorry to say that the board members do not agree on having their pictures published there, although they are already available online. Please also note that the eycn board is elected every two years, so very soon everything will change. Thank you!--DimitraP 06:22, 08 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question about COI

[edit]

Information icon Hello, DimitraP. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page European Young Chemists' Network, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

 • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
 • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the request edit template);
 • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
 • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
 • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.

If you are Dimitra T. Pournara who has cowritten the organizations presentation of themselves here: 2 it is possible you should declare your connection to the organization you are writing about. Please consider the question. --regards Dyveldi ☯ prat ✉ post 06:18, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for the message. Yes, I am Dimitra T. Pournara and I am a co-author of the article linked above. However, I have started working for this page and the translations before getting involved in the EYCN. Please let me know what the next steps could be. Thanks. --DimitraP 06:29, 08 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The most important ting is declaring your involvement to let other editors know. Please read the guideline closely and see what fits your situation. This guideline is a part of the policies on Wikipedia in English.
- I have however noticed that you are editing 24 WPs and it seems your interest is EYCN 3. What I would like to point out is that if you in any way are compensated for your edits the edits must be disclosed. These rules apply to all Wikipedias and are a part of the user terms set down by Wikimedia Foundation for all the projects they run. You can find English and Norwegian text and links to the user terms and FAQ on this page w:no:Bruker:Dyveldi/Betalt redigering. The page is on Norwegian WP because I use it to make users there aware of this part of the user terms. These Wikimedia Foundation rules applies to all the 24 projects where you have edited.
- I will underline that this does not mean that your edits are unwanted, quite the contrary. It is however important to make other editors aware of the possibility of a COI. Please read the Wikimedia Foundation rules and FAQ closely to see if any of this applies to you. Especially the FAQ gives good explanations of the rules and a bit of background. I have experienced that due to these rules being placed centrally on the Wikimedia Foundation pages they are quite often difficult to find and even if you find the user terms it is a long list to work your way through.
- Again if any of this applies to you the absolutely most important thing is your declaration, eighter on your user page, user discussion page, the discussion page of the articles you edit or a declaration in the edit summary for you edit.
- Good luck with your editing. Best regards Dyveldi ☯ prat ✉ post 20:51, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the detailed explanations. I indeed need guidance from a specialist, because, as you said, my interest at the moment is only EYCN. However, my contribution to this part is voluntary, and I do not receive any compensation for any of the 24 edited WPs. So, if I understand well, the only COI is my involvement in the network and the article writing. Is then a disclosure of COI following these instructions Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#How_to_disclose_a_COI necessary? Please let me know, so that I can appropriately proceed with further necessary changes in the non-English pages. Regards --DimitraP 16:38, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Writing on your own talk page as you now have done and did earlier on above should be more than sufficient. As far as I understand these rules I think that is what is needed.
- I'll give you some background. There have been examples of people paying PR-firms to write about themselves or something they want favourably presented. Created quite a hullabaloo (or several hullabaloos) when it was uncovered and nobody had said anything. It is allowed, but a declaration is needed like here 4 and other users are still not happy about it 5.
- There have also been examples of for instance a University asking a professor they employ to write during working hours about something he/she is a specialist in. For instance a medical doctor writing about his/her speciality in medicine. Did not create much uproar, is very much wanted, but both cases are an employee using paid working hours to write on wikipedia. Both is allowed, but other users should know. If the professor uses his/her spare time outside working hours to write what he/she pleases it does not need declaration.
- Please also remember that you are a newbie, i.e. new to Wikipedia. I feel very confident that more experienced editors will know and want to help you out, explain, correct editing mistakes, and generally be helpful. Please just ask on a convenient talk page when you have questions. Good luck. --regards Dyveldi ☯ prat ✉ post 17:26, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, thanks a lot for your help! Regards --DimitraP 18:18, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
