Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Qery2, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was XLnotes, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! WingtipvorteX PTT 18:32, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

XLnotes

[edit]

I've put a few tags on the XLnotes article simply to help remind you to address those issues, not to criticize your work, which I actually want to congratulate you on, as it is a very well done article wiki-wise! Just be careful about being neutral, since you are the owner of the software, and making sure the article doesn't sound like an ad. I am assuming good faith from your part. --WingtipvorteX PTT 18:40, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article XLnotes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No significant coverage in reliable sources independent of topic

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Dmitrij D. Czarkoff (talk) 18:44, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I'm the owner of the software (should have stated it from the beginning at the talk page), but I've tried to write the article without vague and promotional sentences. The article makes sence in context of lists of notetaking software and ouliners, since it presents a rather notable and rare example of a free form outliner (compared to tree-structured outliners). Qery2 (talk) 18:45, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Your removal of the template was not appropriate. It clearly stated notability needed to be established by independent, reliable sources. You only added an external link to the CNET download page. You need to prove to wikipedia that your software is notable enough to merit its own article. You do that by showing that others, not you, have covered your software in a reliable source. Then you use your site to provide the details, but you can't use your site to establish notability. I'd be more than happy to help you add references if they exist. --WingtipvorteX PTT 19:14, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A link to a malware site won't help much either. --WingtipvorteX PTT 19:16, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I guess I need some sort of an app review? I'll try to ask for one, but that will take some time. In the meantime, what should I do with the article? Qery2 (talk) 19:21, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Read WP:N, which covers everything related to notability. Follow the guidelines for general notability in that page. As for what to do with the article in the meantime, you have a couple of options:
  • Merge the article into another article that covers the same thing (not very doable in the case of software, unless you found an article about note-taking software for MS Office). This one should not be disputed, as contents inside an article are not as limited by notability.
  • Put the article in the WP:INCUBATOR, a place where articles that do not meet all criteria for an article are placed until they do. Read that page to see if yours would meet the criteria for incubator.
  • Copy the article into a sandbox into your userspace. Check out my sandbox, where I am working on expanding an article that is not yet ready for prime time. When it is, I simply copy it to the main space. You can keep it there for a lengthy (but not indefinitely) amount of time. I can help you do this if you'd like.
While you wait for your program to become notable to WP standards, I would recommend you build a good reputation as an editor to make sure you dispel any doubts about simply trying to use WP for adveritzing your software and then leaving for good. Let me know if you have any questions. If you leave more for me here, put {{tb|User talk:Qery2}} under a new section on my talk page so I know to come here. --WingtipvorteX PTT 21:30, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I've moved the article to my sandbox. I guess the main article could be deleted now? Also, I'll try to make more contributions. Thanks for your help!Qery2 (talk) 05:24, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please leave a note on your current intent regarding XLnotes coverage on Wikipedia in ongoing deletion discussion? — Dmitrij D. Czarkoff (talk) 02:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of XLnotes for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article XLnotes is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/XLnotes until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. — Dmitrij D. Czarkoff (talk) 19:09, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
